When you get a call about fraudulent charges that seems in itself fraudulent, because when you don’t give them personal info they call you “baby” when they hang up.

Anyone promising to uproot scam/spam phone networks could be elected president TOMORROW.

Today begins the annual campaign for QT Library, a Boston-based queer and trans library I’m honored to volunteer with. Spaces that support queer stories and queer communities are as vital now as they’ve ever been, and it would mean so much if you’d help us to re-resource and grow 📚🌱🏳️‍⚧️

Re: every headline involving education
A 4 panel comic.

Panel 1: closeup of a new textbook on a kid's school desk. The cover reads "World Histeries - sponcored bye PragerU + OpenAI"

Panel 2: The kid opens the book. Page titles include "How slavery boosted the enconemy" and "12 reasons hitler wasn't wrong" along with an ad that reads "more with a pragerU subscription and another that says "10% off openAI" with a QR code.

Panel 3: the kid looks up at the teacher, lifts the book, and says "what the fuck is this"

Panel 4: an exhausted teacher, still passing out a stack of the books, replies "your senator picked it"

It's super not America-First, you know? I can't believe more of his crew isn't rioting over this. It only makes sense in a "Trump buys his friends" way.

this is truth

and sadly not sustainable

I know one of the lawyers working to get Emmanuel back to his mom, who was deported to Venezuela without him. I've donated, and if anyone has extra to spare, this is a family reunification we can make happen. ❤️ Reshares welcome!

Today, I got a *different* reply from a different HQ spokesperson and yet, it was was the same--"wait and see," "case by case." So I resent my letter.

I hope everyone is letting HQ and other publishers hear it. Tor has set a standard (made whole on any monies missed) and HQ better step up.

Heard from Harlequin--a month after asking for clarification--I was told they would be handling *all* of our dropped copyrights on a "case-by-case" issue. Here's my reply and I hope we all stick together as we press for compensation. @suzbrockmann.bsky.social

Same image 2x for all alt text.
Hi Cadence,

Thanks for you reply and I appreciate that Harlequin is going to file copyright on those remaining books.

However, I fail to see the logic of waiting and seeing and approaching the lack of action on your behalf to a "case-by-case" basis. This was not just a Harlequin-wide failure but an industry-wide failure. It's not like you only neglected a few (A few! Nine!) of my titles as a one-off. This was a systemic, company-wide, industry-wide failing that is going to cost me $20,500 for 9 books worth of settlement monies. I know some authors who only had 3 books without a filed copyright, but that's still $9K of incredibly useful money at a time when everything is more expensive and it doesn't even begin to address authors like Suzanne Brockman who, at last count, is out something like $160k.

This is not a case-by-case situation and it's insulting to think that you are hoping you can maybe settle something with the "squeaky wheels" in hopes that we won't talk to each other about this. Everyone knows that McMillan/Tor is offering to make their authors whole, upfront, no wishy-washy language.

Alt text cont. in next slide. Alt text continued from previous slide:

Harlequin has had over a month to come up with a plan. I emailed Miranda and the Concierge Team on Sept. 9 and yet the best you have to offer is, "wait and see" approach that leaves a bunch of very upset authors with a lot more questions than answers.
Our works were stolen. I don't know if you (the collective you representing Harlequin, not you personally) appreciate how angry authors (as well as artists and all creatives) are that we were stripped of our rights and our ability to make money from our works. We have a chance, thanks to this settlement, to make some money back from that. Due to negligence or incompetence, Harlequin (and nearly every other publisher out there) has made this much more difficult, and you think a "case-by-case" approach is going to work? This whole situation was discovered because of a class-action lawsuit. Class-action directly implies a large group. Harlequin needs to be thinking collectively, because I sure am.

Again, thank you for filing the belated copyrights. I most sincerely hope that is not the least Harlequin plans on doing.

This image contains text on a two-toned green background. Header text in white reads "Handwritten message submissions wanted". Below that, a ripped piece of paper has brown handwriting that reads "We will survive. Together!".
In the bottom left there is a slightly askew neon green mail sticker with the image of a green gas cloud and a skull. To the right of that is light pink text that reads "Write an empowering and supportive disability justice message, poem, or sentiment. Take a picture & submit to dis-anthology@outlook.com It will be included in a collage inside the upcoming anthology!"
At the very bottom, centred, in bright green text, is the message "if you cannot hand write it.I can do that for you! Simply submit it as a typed message."

An illustration of Miss Major surrounded by candles with blue background and a famous quote of hers written in gold. The quote reads“I don’t need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about.” -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy
