Post 9/11 thread for people to post the wildest shit they remember from 01 to 06

I'll start:

People thought Osama had an entire mountain hollowed out that he was using as his base and that's why AQ was hard to find and that somehow a group of like 30 dudes arranged this.

Today, Benjamin Netanyahu said it is so 'antisemitic' that Australia called for a Palestinian state that it inspired the mass shooting.

In case you were wondering who is trying to capitalize politically off of atrocity.

What makes this extra funny is that the only reason I go back to Twitter is international journalists, which means that they're just mad American pundits and journos have bailed
Elon's little serfs are quite literally begging journalists to come back because every publicly available source of data shows people have fled the platform and young people won't use it.

They are literally begging regular people to come back. Don't do it! It is a website by and for actual Nazis!

Pretty bizarre segment. They didn’t name RFK but they named his CDC, lumped it with Biden’s, said Biden’s was bad but it’s worse now.
Sounds more like they’re blaming Biden in a “look what he made us do” fashion
Fox is blaming RFK Jr. for the measles outbreak. They promoted him, supported his nomination, and now they are turning on him. 🙄

It’s incredible that the government and industry response was “they’ll never figure out how to assemble a reliable car”
Everyone knew the Chinese competition was coming for the last 20 years.

And the US resorted to malign bigger and bigger cars.

They might not have known it would take the form of light Chinese EVs or Korean SUVs. But it was known and US carmakers resorted to the wrong answer. They had 14 years

This is incredible (good news too): “After a 40% fall in 2024 in battery equipment costs, it’s clear we’re on track for another major fall in 2025…The economics for batteries are unrecognizable, & the industry is only just getting to grips with this new paradigm”

Batteries now cheap enough to make dispatchable solar economically feasible
Energy think tank Ember says utility-scale battery costs have fallen to $65/MWh outside China and the United States, enabling solar power to be delivered when needed.

You could argue that Podesta played a bigger role than any other non-elected official in creating a Democratic Party that has “lost touch with the middle class and the poor”
i am once again asking who the "leftist extremists in the faculty lounge" shaping democratic party priorities are, and what policies it is that they are instituting

I've been reading (Horace) Walpole as a kind of privileged outsider's view on British politics as the Revolution unfolded, and I recently came across his excoriation of exactly what you describe, which has no small resonance to much of today's U.S. (including a societal obsession with gambling!):

What always kills me with these guys is there's no way they actually enjoy their lives if they're obsessed with this shit and think like this. Like this kind of insane dogma rots your enjoyment of life in some weird fixation with trying to make things simpler and controllable.

China did not demand this of me.
If I were traveling to a country with a government unbound by laws and carelessly vindictive, and they asked me for iris scans, fingerprints, selfies, and access to 5 years of all social media posts (which means made public if they’re currently set to private) I would not travel there.
US plans to ask visitors to share 5 years of social media history to enter
Tourists from 42 countries may soon need to also disclose email accounts, extensive family history and biometrics.

I kind of love that their parking lots are so small because for me it usually means they're in an area where it's really easy to do some errands and maybe get some lunch. The actual parking part sucks tho lol
I know everyone thinks this about the parking lot at whatever Trader Joe's they shop at, but I would like to nominate Bressi Ranch's Trader Joe's as the most comically undersized, badly designed and psychotic TJ's parking lot in America. A real exemplar
