Post 9/11 thread for people to post the wildest shit they remember from 01 to 06

I'll start:

People thought Osama had an entire mountain hollowed out that he was using as his base and that's why AQ was hard to find and that somehow a group of like 30 dudes arranged this.

I can actually imagine some good device per child programs but they would be like home econ type stuff, like building a computer from a raspberry pi to do basic electronic repair on and to type essays on. Doesn’t even need internet access.

Even when it’s not blatantly racist and run by republicans, these groups are inherently conservative and serve primarily to protect incumbent interests. Like the Andersonville Chamber stopping a convenience store from opening because it was a “chain” while a Taco Bell was practically next door.

Just a proud, unrepentant racist.
A MAGA grandpa in Wyoming called 911 and told the operator to “call ICE” on an Amazon delivery driver simply for speaking Spanish.

“There’s this guy in front of my house who can’t speak English. You need to call ICE on him.”

Trump rages that Henry Cuellar didn’t pay him back for a pardon by switching parties, blasting Cuellar for a “lack of LOYALTY.”

In other words, Trump admits he was trying to use his pardon power to buy Republicans a House seat.

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.
Smith doubled down on her anti court rhetoric today...

She even seemed to suggest that federally appointed judges couldn't render impartial rulings and that she believed her interpretation should always be above theirs.

good to see new orleans's big train station finally get more than 4.86 trains a day. next step is six trains daily to baton rouge!
Amtrak's restored service between New Orleans and Mobile has far exceeded initial ridership projections since launch in August, just like what happened when the Borealis service was established between Chicago and St. Paul last year.

Amtrak is currently expecting to double the first-year estimates.
Gulf Coast train line is among the most successful in Amtrak’s history. See ridership totals.
The route’s early success has raised hope for some advocates of regional train travel. See how many people have taken the train since its launch in August.

Some of the best things about America are the ADA, the IDEA, the first amendment (i know it's lame, but I like it), and birthright citizenship. Those are some of the only laws we have that are better than a lot of our peer nations

An internal list of military targets? Naming everyone on board, fulfilling wartime rules of engagement, ready in time for a covert boat trip, but requiring 40 minutes to justify a second strike?

May we see it?
EXCLUSIVE: Pete Hegseth ordered the U.S. military on Sept. 2 to kill all 11 people on a suspected drug-smuggling boat because they were on an internal list of military targets, the commander overseeing the operation told lawmakers, according to multiple sources.
Admiral told lawmakers everyone on alleged drug boat was on a list of military targets
Adm. Frank Bradley said U.S. intelligence had identified the 11 people on the boat and determined the military was authorized to kill them as part of Trump’s campaign against alleged drug-smuggling vessels.

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

BREAKING: ‘This hurts’: UNL eliminates 4 programs despite faculty, student pleas
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln eliminates the Earth and atmospheric sciences 8-0, educational administration 7-1, statistics 7-1, textiles, merchandising and fashion design 7-1 programs.
