The healthiest thing we can do for the internet is get as many regular users as possible running their own websites. You could buy a domain and such, but a super easy starting point is to get a free subdomain of neocities.org, which is like geocities but existing now.

I finally got an answer back from CPD on Carlos Baker’s status. He’s the cop who fatally shot his partner, allegedly shortly after she ended their relationship.

“Officer Baker is on Active Status, assigned to the 6th District and Detailed to Unit 376.”

376 is the Alternate Response Section.
So: a walking embodiment of ACAB who, even by pro-cop standards, should never have made it past probation and at best killed someone by incompetence and will cost the city milliions is technically still employed and no coverage I've found says if he's getting paid or not.
Not fired, just relieved of his police powers. It could take years to actually fire him.

This is happening to unaccompanied and separated immigrant children all over the country. 👇 And I suspect it will only get worse in 2026, from what I'm hearing.
Due to the Trump administration’s funding cuts, RMIAN must turn away immigrant youth who have come to the country unaccompanied, forcing children — in some cases not yet old enough to speak in complete sentences — to endure immigration court proceedings alone.
Kids left without representation in Colorado immigration court after federal funding cuts
This year, RMIAN lost $1 million in long-standing federal funding, said Mekela Goehring, the organization’s executive director.

I'm thinking about the Tribune guy who got mad at me when I said FOIA-enabled reporting shouldn't be paywalled then got madder when I said the Tribune routinely puts out things that I absolutely refuse to monetarily support.

Unraveled Press is free. Yet I pay them money. Because they do good work.
Raven and Steve, the two person shop behind @unraveledpress.com literally got shot at and arrested for covering the ICE and US Border Patrol onslaught on Chicago. It did not slow down their efforts to expose the abuses of the feds and stand up for communities across Chicago. Thank you for the work.

This is honestly so cool and nice. We are gobsmacked by all the community support we've received this year.

Thank you @dansinker.com!

Honestly, this Trump post is a posthumous badge of honor for Rob Reiner.

Because if this is how Trump speaks about someone after their death, then they clearly did something right in their life.

“At Texas A&M, internal emails show staff are using AI software to search syllabi and course descriptions for words that could raise concerns under new system policies restricting how faculty teach about race and gender.”

the robot trying to steal my job isn’t even good at it! it consumes like 1000 gallons of water to make a 6 minute podcast that’s aggressively wrong more than half time! i can make a much longer podcast using way less water. i don’t even shower on days that i’m writing.
New: When the Washington Post ran tests on its AI personalized podcasts, the paper found that between 68% and 84% (!!) of the pods had potential issues.

Still, the paper decided to release the product anyway, saying it would “iterate through the remaining issues”

In the original you’re aware of the horror of falling, but the body positions of the workers are solid on the beam. Here, most of them should be falling off, yet they don’t, because they live in an unreal, consequence-free space.
I guess it's fitting that it's a reimagined, worse version of someone else's artwork

I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted
