#nzpol nz is the canary down the coal mine…metaphor intended
Around 70% of the U.S. economy depends on consumer spending. As wealth concentrates in the richest 10%, the rest of America can’t afford to buy enough to keep the economy running. This is a huge problem — and even America’s most powerful CEOs are starting to sound the alarm.
Our Economy Is in Danger. Here’s Why

Neither Labour nor National have done f-all 2 slow dropping living stds 4 most NZers 4 the last 40+ yrs. The Greens have produced a viable economic plan. Give them 3 yrs 2 show what they can do. The fact the 2 big parties spend time screaming about them shows they're worried. Vote Greens
#NZPol
#NZPol Just vote Green. This is such bullshit.
Things that Labour will say 'yes' to:
1. We need 120,000 people unemployed (at least) to stop wages going up by too much.
2. Banks can extract $8bn a year in profits, because that's the price we should pay.
3. The market will eventually deliver affordable energy / food / rent - be patient comrades.

Could investors have been… wrong?

Did they put tons of money up not based on an actual existing product with limited use cases, but on hype that the technology would soon turn into magic?

Because that does not seem like a wise investment.
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

Labour announces low-interest loans for family GP practices
If elected, the Labour Party would prioritise areas with no GPs, or practices with closed or partially closed books.

So all the Labour people were like "just wait until the party conference, you'll be surprised at our policy energy"

And the headline announcement is "loans for GP practices"!?

This makes "GST off fruit" look ambitious...

Incrementalism can get in the bloody sea. It's a tool to ratchet the government further right.

As many have been saying for a while, sure seems like the “who could AI replace” question has the opposite answer to what the bosses expect
The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B

There are 3 canonical interpretations of Mommy kissing Santa:

1. The narrator’s mother and father are participating in Santa cosplay kink (family friendly)

2. Mama is cheating w a philanderer disguised as Santa (unclear if she knows)

3. Mama is hooking up w the ACTUAL Santa (moral gray area)

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI

The last sentence might sound like semantics, but it's important. Govt spending adds cash to the economy (we get richer) and Govt taxation takes it away again (we get poorer).
Govt 'borrow' by creating cash and spending it.
The more $ Govt spend, the more $ we have to pay taxes. A simple truth.
