Yeah for some reason* it's only funded for that one year, and quite expensive otherwise.

* it's a cynical and ultimately counterproductive way to save costs that ends up costing the system way more in the long run. So in that way it's the perfect example of Kiwi public policy

My main worry in raising boys (toddlers now) is how to avoid all this. I can teach and model good values, try to keep them off the radicalizing YouTube algorithm, etc. But not sure how I'm going to deal with toxic misogynistic classmates...

Allowing fascists to control the narrative and continually shift the Overton window by saying "no we want to fund the cops MORE than you, we'll give ICE even MORE money, etc" to appease them and try to win them over helped land us here. They enjoy watching people get brutalized on the news.

Little has an easy path to success by just carrying on the previous council's work while using old-white-man energy to soothe the Oriental Bay/Khandallah crowd.

Whether he chooses to take it... who knows? He's certainly tone-deaf and egotistical enough to try to fight his own party's council...

@jbpritzker.bsky.social could easily order ISP to just stay away from DHS/ICE facilities. It's a deliberate choice for ISP to be there providing crowd control for federal goons.

He's talked a good game but talk is cheap, and his actions are just as bad as every other elected Dem leader.

Heartbreaking reading, but this Reddit thread gives a sense of the relentlessness of the horror inflicted by ICE, and the damage being done to so many innocent people that doesn't make the news.

I am an immigrant from the US and could not agree more. I’ve lived on stolen land for my entire life, but acknowledgement of this fact is far more a part of public life here. For the sake of justice and vibrancy, Aotearoa should be MORE visibly Māori and Polynesian, not less.

Israeli public opinion isn't the target (especially as Israelis overwhelmingly support their country's genocidal actions). The target is the economic viability of the Israeli state. And the goal is to eliminate that viability as punishment for the genocide it committed.

The media should follow up on this, given their recent interest in Peters' window.

But it's also incumbent on the Green Party leaders to hammer Peters on this. He incited a hate mob against one of their members, and they should constantly be pointing to this whenever he mouths off.

Yeah agree though I think the bigger impediment to restoring constitutional government is Dem willingness to pursue necessary reforms, prosecute ICE goons, etc.

It's unfortunately easier to see a world where Dems win congress and declare victory without purging Trumpism and repairing the damage

I don't really understand what winning the Senate gets you other than judicial confirmations (which at this point don't really matter, as SCOTUS is all in for Trump)?

Controlling the House alone let's you stop legislation, vote down Trump's budgets, etc.

Andrew fucking Cuomo is very famously more abusive than Porter or Klobuchar, and huge portions of the Democratic establishment rallied around him just 6 months ago!

That said, I'm not going to defend Porter here. Don't abuse your staff, this isn't hard.
