O yeah. The council definitely had an unspoken "don't ask, don't tell" policy that they did their best to get Anakin to understand and he just didn't get it.

Gavin Newsom will never be president regardless of what Halle Berry does.

He projects "slick California lawyer" and "the guy who stole your girlfriend" and voters in every other state in the union, especially the male ones, hate that.
the “this guy sucks and should not be our president” part, not the “and that’s why I should be allowed to grift at the expense of the public” part

There are lots of other ways to address the very real harms that kids experience online:

✅ Strict privacy laws that make it illegal to harvest data and use it to recommend content

✅ Antitrust laws so we have real choices for where to go online

✅ Regulate features like autoplay & infinite scroll

Just got a TPUSA text for the Indiana redistricting. Seems desperate.

Also, if you text back "fuck off" it unsubscribes you.

starmer somehow concluded from a decade of tory wins and then a single, catastrophic loss that the tories were popular but their big problem is that they were not good at being tories
Biden was generally bad in ways he was obviously going to be bad on, & he made some pretty admirable attempts to make the best of his slim majorities in congress, whereas Starmer came to power with a respectable majority, but has opted to fritter it all away in baffling & evil ways

My SCOTUS reform idea:
-13 justices, each overseeing a circuit court
-mandatory retirement age of 70
-revolving structure based on appointment date; 9 justices on SCOTUS for cases while the other 4 oversee their circuits, then swapping them in & out every 4 months
-expulsion for accepting payments

Yes. There’s a widespread popular desire for protest and a more confrontational posture toward the administration etc., and political entrepreneurs are going to capitalize on that if the Democrats refuse to.

The right is mad that we reduced the scope of bullying because they've justified their own bullying in school as some survival of the fittest bullshit, and they're mad about teen pregnancy because it means less control over women. Both of which, at least to me, are part of the right's eugenics crap.
also we really slashed teen pregnancy and now the right is mad that we did.

Between this & the Supreme Court ruling, Republicans know that this is the best position they're going to be in for a good long while, so they're going to make as much hay as they while the sun is still peeking over the horizon

The good news is that with the national environment they're facing, this won't save them. It might even backfire and hurt them on net.

The bad news is that SCOTUS is still deciding to make a complete ass of itself.
SCOTUS conservatives just blessed the Texas GOP's gerrymander. It'll be used next year.

They stay the lower-court ruling, written by a Trump-appointed judge, that found the gerrymander to be illegal.

While no clear vote, Alito wrote a concurrence; and only the three liberal justices dissented.

So, this is obviously partisan garbage, but I can't help but feel like this will come back to haunt the GOP in a major way. As has already been said, gerrymandering your entire state into 2024 Trump+10 districts just in time for the biggest blue wave in decades might not be the best idea.
BREAKING: Supreme Court sides with Texas Republicans in fight over congressional map. The new gerrymandered map will be used in the 2026 midterms. The vote is 6–3, with the Republican appointees siding with Texas.

it is an underrated miracle of the 21st century that we really did massively, massively reduce bullying in schools
My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.

My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.
for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

I think this is worryingly plausible, but I think there is another contributing factor in that a number of people who previously identified as Republicans but were not broadly psychotic now identify as independents, thus concentrating the ideologies under “identifies as Republican” rightward.

I've been going on for years about how local Democratic clubs and parties should be organizing protests and marches, rather than weirdo communists.

People responding angrily to the latest Republican outrage should be recruited by the political party whose main job right now is to thwart them.
4) That orgs as unhinged as Code Pink and PSL are so visible in street-level organizing should prompt feelings of embarrassment and reflection on the part of the Democratic Party

Part of it is that a lot of the "progressive" candidates have really ugly skeletons regarding race and bigotry and a lot of the organizing has largely been hot air.

Plus, unlike Republicans, most Dem voters don't hate the party "establishment" as much as the GOP base does.

Because of this rift in the diaspora, now the Right exults in naming the Jew as the center-left reaps rewards from naming the Bad Jew. A generational well-poisoning. And as bona fide antisemitism intensifies, the Israelis exercise message discipline: If the diaspora is unsafe, simply make aliyah.
