"imagine a world in which undeserving people rise to positions of power by exploiting systems that claim to be promoting equality and fairness"

oh, you mean Capitalism? Yeah, that would suck, probably
I think filling the top ranks of our education system with people who got there in part by abusing a system designed to help disabled people will select morally deficient people for leadership positions in our society and is worth taking steps to avoid bsky.app/profile/padr...
I mean if the only risk is some kids getting extra time on tests it seems like not such a big deal

I actually think the genAI thing is showing us who wants to be scientists and who wants to be perceived as being scientists.

There's been a similar thing with writers and artists....
Imagine: If we had a crystal ball that tells us what are the discoveries to be made, we wouldn't have to do science in the first place.

Apparently that's some scientists' scientific ideal. Rather than doing science. So many weird ontological and epistemic assumptions to unpack.

Here's something weird my neighbor Cassie pointed out: Chapter 42 of Cynthia Erivo's recently released book "Simply More" is almost verbatim words spoken by Ariana Grande in an interview a year ago. Grande is not cited or listed as a contributor or attributed in the book in any way. Weird!

as someone who also openly balked at accommodations in college because i was ashamed of my dyslexia, fuck this author for weaponizing another person's shame to argue that more accommodations are "bad".
Even by the standards of The Atlantic, this is an extraordinarily weak evidence base for an article.

Data from a tiny handful of schools that isn't measuring the variable at issue and a few thin, secondhand anecdotes.

Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, just introduced a bill to ban Americans from holding dual citizenship. The bill says that to “preserve the integrity of national citizenship, allegiance to the United States must be undivided.” It’s called the Exclusive Citizenship Act.

Arguably too many people sign up just for the ads. Here are some that were posted to Bluesky this year by members.

oh look a fairly measured take on LLMs has devolved into a thread of people 'debating' each other by painting in overly broad strokes about the issue in order to dunk on each other...
this is a bluesky bubble opinion. 800M+ people use chatgpt every week. I hate Facebook and Instagram and I wish they didn’t exist, but 3B and 2B people use them every month, respectively. it’s very hard to picture a mass or even a niche left backlash against them
i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills

idk how else to explain this to the "more money than sense" crowd, but 'Her' was a work of fiction about a divorced guy and not a blueprint for the future of technology.
the whole video is pathetic but be sure check out what he says at ~1:32 about the way he predicts phones will work in the future. it's the dumbest thing i've ever heard

In the UVM soccer game there was a 5’ break where the ref went to VAR twice for a standard YC foul and FK, and this is why the clock should always run. Waste of everyone’s time because the ref was slightly worried about the spot of the FK.

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

i was like "oh, if SLB are playing 3ATB today against a 3rd division side, Wynder *must* be in line for some minutes"

i should have known better...
Mourinho's experiment with three at the back ended in 45 minutes. #Benfica suffered to creat against third tier #AtléticoCP and was not sound defensively.

Second half with the "normal" 4x3x3.

is there an active community of people working with the NCBI's Entrez tools online? I feel like there has been a lot of subtle changes being made to the Entrez APIs that are totally undocumented, and it'd be nice to have a spot to discuss with others.
