Pokemon is well-known for false choices in their dialogue- but in Scarlet/Violet a character asks you if you want to be "Rivals for life" and if you keep saying "No" she keeps asking more and more aggressively until she's just yelling "YOU. ME. RIVALS. YES?". It always gets me for some reason.

Ok team — funniest -interactive- moments and jokes in games? Not cutscene based, prompted either by gameplay interaction or a choice

Examples:
- Portal 2’s asking you to press space to speak to confirm you don’t have brain damage, and jumping instead
- Baldur’s Gate 3 Volo Eye extraction

What I love most about Sun Tzu is that it wasn't even about being a "brilliant tactician"- it was that literally every other commander in his period was a nepotism hire, so he HAD to write these kind of lines in order to make sure the entire army didn't die on the march of malnutrition.

If this was happening in any other country you'd have journalists and analysts discussing risks of state failure

this platform is silencing me instead of exchanging ideas, by which I meant exchanging their good ideas for my bad ideas and not criticizing me for them in any way

“I’m a cop. I am not supposed to feel dread. He’s a brown person. HE’S supposed to feel dread!”

Bari nods sympathetically.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

Why are all 32-year-olds in news like this. Please let me escape this age.
canopenerdude.bsky.social
I do like them a lot! Unfortunately there's a couple specific features that they (understandably) disable for privacy reasons that I need enabled to do my project work, so for the moment I have to stick with Chrome. Once I've worked around those problems though, I will definitely switch.

the use of "sickening" and "disgusting" as a synonym for "immoral" suggests that the primary dictator of morals to humanity is not religion but the gag reflex

Annoyingly put-together guy getting way too chatty with the busy baristas at the coffeeshop this morning: "Billy Joel is like the perfect music for this morning."
Barista, slammed, in the midst of making tons of drinks, incredibly flat affect: "This is Bob Dylan."

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

It's going to keep getting worse.

Massive escalation at the Portland ICE facility. Worst I’ve ever seen. More pepper balls than I can count. Teargas in the middle of crowd. Violent arrests. Some type of either noise or rubber bullet shotgun fired into the air then later aimed at protesters chests/heads at near point blank range.

Hey all 👋 my living situation has dramatically changed. I should be fine for a few months, but if you'd like to help me make - significantly increased - rent, then any change would be greatly appreciated.

GUESS WHO'S BACK

BACK AGAIN

DOC'S BACK

TELL A FRIEND

That's right. It's time for part 3 of the FPS series; this time, a lot of assorted thoughts on what makes for good enemy design. This one was fun as hell to write.

building a better first person shooter part 3: enemy mine
So! First, we talked about a specific subgenre of first person shooter, loosely starting with Unreal and Half-Life and dying off around…

It is going to be SO EASY to basically remake the country once we take control. Congress has abdicated its authority and the Presidency is illegitimate, plus the SCOTUS has proven to be completely without any independence from the Presidency. There essentially is no legitimate Federal Govt rn
gravitysra1nbow.bsky.social
It's incredible the extent to which Congress just utterly refuses to defend itself. You'd think for entirely self-interested reasons you would stridently oppose having the power of the purse arbitrarily ripped from you, ya know?

Why would you allow yourself to become the Roman Senate circa 27 BC.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine
