"Thinking meat! You're asking me to believe in thinking meat!"

"Yes, thinking meat! Conscious meat! Loving meat. Dreaming meat. The meat is the whole deal! Are you getting the picture?"
amyhoy.bsky.social
and this is why the social model of disability is necessary but absolutely the fuck not sufficient

“but how do you shower?” well i used to take a bath first and then i was already wet everywhere so it didn’t count and now we have the world’s most uselessly shallow tub, i just strangle the urge to scream for the first 30 seconds. fun time
amyhoy.bsky.social
i don’t know about you but droplets falling on me and trickling down my skin is one of my so bad i just wanna scream and scream sensory things
amyhoy.bsky.social
love that we’re getting MOAR RAIN but wish it hadn’t waited til 5 seconds after i took rocco out the door for his final walk of the evening
amyhoy.bsky.social
look at that fuckin aurora!!
paisleystars.bsky.social
Welcome back to the 'don't look now but the sky's doing weird shit' part of the year
The aurora borealis (northern lights) as two distinctive shapes over a mountain. One purple spike into a more diffuse green wave. Both very clear and strong.

same.

out of curiosity, how are you with steroids like prednisone?

i used to be ok, just really grumpy, but last time it made me have a rage without the handbrake and i threw my phone so hard at the ground it snapped in 2 🤪 and gave me a spinal CSF leak

dexamethasone is not as bad
amyhoy.bsky.social
yes please. i asked for a dm 🥰
amyhoy.bsky.social
would love to know who/where these 2 docs are, if you would be open to sharing in a dm

real PTs (not assistants) are some of my favorite people for this reason. you tell them "i think x" and then they check and they say "yes, x" because they just immediately verify it. and then they're like "COOL"
amyhoy.bsky.social
fun times during PT:

i was doing a band for my ankle using my other leg as the resistance

but my leg was bowing to the side

said to the PT, "hey tony, i think my knee is going sideways"

he came over, lifted my leg, jiggled it & said "yes it is"

and then called all the other PTs over to see lmao

they also have an incredibly toxic and counterproductive corporate culture. i knew a bunch of people who worked there.

it's amazing how corporations paralyze themselves

i've been saying they need a real "upcoming for you" list for decades
amyhoy.bsky.social
damn that sucks!

there are a bunch i can't take, but i'm lucky enough to have compounded benadryl and ativan
amyhoy.bsky.social
they don't!! especially bc usually people with that much rage actually want to inflict harm, bc they USE rage, whereas with us, it's like somebody injected us with a rage drug against our will. that's how i described it to my husband.

so unusual to meet somebody who really understands!!
amyhoy.bsky.social
yes. i am so happy any time anyone takes that much interest in me. use me as an example! invite everyone to come poke me! i'm down for it
amyhoy.bsky.social
yup! and ativan is a powerful mast cell stabilizer, you know?

i'm hoping a GLP1 will help with my ongoing inflammation issues
amyhoy.bsky.social
yes, absolutely. at times i resorted to hitting myself so i wouldn't hurt anyone else.

honestly ativan — taken only during an episode — is a total life-changer. it isn't a full off-switch but it turns it down enough to be tolerable. occasional use doesn't build a tolerance either.
amyhoy.bsky.social
it used to feel like being a passenger in my own body and i never wanted to be a violent person but there i was hitting (when i was still a kid) and then just breaking shit (as a young adult) and then just wanting to explode and die (as an adult with nearly-iron fist control)
amyhoy.bsky.social
that was me to a T. i'm so glad your kids have you & you all figured it out.
amyhoy.bsky.social
as i'm an adult, i learned to not DO anything during the rages but the self-control it takes is massive and it still feels just as awful
amyhoy.bsky.social
idk if this is even doable for a child but my neuro rx'd me ativan for gluten attacks. i am SO sensitive, way more than a celiac, & was getting exposed no matter what i did before i got my gluten detection service dog.

ativan stops the rage. i'm very big but only take a small dose (0.5mg)

they were SO AWFUL

they can still be kinda bad if you're not careful (i'm a supertaster for my sins, so very sensitive to Bitter)
amyhoy.bsky.social
that's really interesting! (but also, i feel you, and am sorry)

i used to always get the full mast cell reax — flushing and all. but i don't any more. it's changed, which is so weird.

for nuts, are you corn sensitive too? bc i found out many are pasteurized in corn-y solutions. but not all.
