@pfrazee.com one ongoing Bluesky issue is I will spend like seven minutes going through my iPhone library and pick a photo or video and it just doesn't show up. There's no error suggesting why. There's an event I wanna post about but literally can't and I have no idea what's the problem is

I think about this a lot and I hope she does

There's this modern meme about how every death in war is a war crime.

And here we have Pete just fucking do one. Just dudes clinging to a fucking raft of boat debris in the middle of the ocean hundreds of miles from shore.

And they just fucking did it. Pete told them to.

I'm just really fucking goddamn mad right now and I'm just some goddamn rando

But how many of us are goddamn randos

Pete must be held accountable. This is not the opinion of some reactionary lib. I get accused all the fucking goddamn time of being the mainstream.

People need to be adjudicated for this. There are ideals of what an American thinks they are that have been violent violated here.

We demand justice.

You got me saying negative things about American empire.

You know it's bad. It's real fucking bad right now dawgs.
November 28, 2025 at 7:34 PM
I was gonna bring up we have a TV show host running the American military right now but then I realized that wouldn't really clear up who I'm talking about
November 28, 2025 at 7:31 PM
The bit baffling administration fervor over senators suggesting that the military shouldn't follow illegal orders is making more sense now

Putting JSOC guys on podcasts honestly pierced a lot of of the mysticism and the hits just keep coming in

To be explicit, we executed a German U-Boat commander who said he had to sink lifesaving gear / “inadvertently” kill survivors because it might give away his position, thereby potentially resulting in the loss of his submarine.

We executed multiple members of that crew.
Heinz-Wilhelm Eck might have something to say about this one.

Did you see that he did a similar video on plastic soda bottles as well? I legit didn't even notice the heat-resistant design elements until this.

I very highly recommend picking up weaving or spinning as a hobby. Learning by hand the amount of labor that used to be required to create simple things like rope, ribbon and fabric, that we buy for pennies now, is astounding.

This is a video I watch probably every three months and have for many years.

There is so much beauty and thought and human capability in the shape of our world. Even in its immense flaws.

Where you can forget, and call a plane an aluminum can, as if insult. It's all miracles.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I'm gonna tell you part of how I deal with life.

It is understanding all the little miracles that are comparatively worthless but emotionally salient.

I go into a Waffle House and I hold that knife and I think about how recent our advanced metallurgy is. Like 70 years

In my first job out of school learning about flash memory and learning that the difference between a 1 and 0 was just how much charge was trapped, with a threshold (or multiple for MLC/TLC/etc), that was when I learned its abstraction all the way down to the very 1s and 0s we’re paid to make dance.

It's important to note that I am uncultured in the very deepest parts of physical manufacture and representation it so don't take what I'm saying completely literally but it is correct perhaps a way that is actually even more complicated than what I'm telling you.

Also, for error correction purposes, different patterns of fourteen bits represent different patterns of eight bits. So there is no one-to-one correspondence of pits and lands to the data actually being demultiplexed, decoded and presented by the player.

20-year packaged media authoring veteran, putting pits and lands onto shiny plastic discs so viewers can be prevented from skipping past a copyright warning. So is a pit 0 and a land 1, or is a pit 1 and a land 0?

Neither!

The transition from one state to the other is a 1.

As a person steeped in all-things-RF, this is dead spot on. 👏
The day I put together how QAM worked in Wi-Fi, and what it meant for data rates, was the day that convinced me that Wi-Fi is akin to messing with an elder god's rituals.

None of this shit should work at all, but it does, and that feels like a devil's bargain was struck.

I'm fully self-taught on optical data transmission, to the point that I specced, QA'ed, and then improved direct imports from Shenzhen factories.

QAM fucked my brain. I couldn't believe it.

And then I realized optical trails electrical and in particular radio by literal *decades*

And then you have the scheduling algorithms and and and and yeah no one has the whole picture in depth.

(I say this as someone who spent approximately five years of their life litigating over 3G and 4G patents - which are a lot simpler than 5G.)
