T and I are swapping office spaces, so now I get to pick new paint colors and design a new shelving unit and arrange all my shit repeatedly until it works, which is exciting but also overwhelming.

I didn't need the pumpkin shaped staub from the secondhand shop either, but you know what? It does make me quite happy, I gotta say.

It’s only because it is frowned upon to stick frogs and birds of prey into my pockets and bags, tbf.

Anyway, rocks and water. Insights into what gets me really excited, I guess. 😂 Now you know why I spend so much time at the river and why I keep finding rocks I forgot about in all of my pockets and bags.

I now need to find someone else to bother about the Snake River watershed specifically, and also current operations for diversion into the Snake River aquifer. I’m also curious about impact of temp increases from diversions feeding back into the Boise and the impact at its outlet into the Snake.

Which is why I mentioned how improved things are since the ‘60s! The entire region has dramatically changed for the better in a single generation. Think what we can do going forward! If you are interested in engaging with this area specifically, check out the Boise River Enhancement Project!

The flood plain of the Boise river is also pretty interesting, especially as seen in Boise. The terraces are really quite visible, and it becomes apparent how impacted the flood plain is currently by urbanization and agriculture. This is the stuff that actually makes me quite mad/sad!

But the migration of the Yellowstone Hot Spot through the snake river plain and the stretching of the entire western coast (right up to what is now the western border of Idaho) has made for some interesting geological features. The snake river plain smiles in a bed of north/south striation. ☺️

Also, as many issues as we face with current conservation along the length of the Boise river, we really have come so far since the 1960s. Management was so extreme that the river would be completely dry all winter, and the bed was used as a road/trash dump/runoff disposal from abattoirs.

Got to hang out with a geologist and hydrologist today and discuss the area (Boise River basin, the broader region, Lake Idaho, and the east and west snake river plain formation from the Cretaceous on). Idaho is very cool, just fyi. 😌

HEY guys -- you know what we need? Another paper on ontogeny and systematics in Tyrannosaurus! This one was in review at the same time as Zanno & Napoli 2025 on #Nanotyrannus and includes an addendum that discusses overlap in conclusions. Also: 'T rex species complex' .... peerj.com/articles/204...
Prolonged growth and extended subadult development in the Tyrannosaurus rex species complex revealed by expanded histological sampling and statistical modeling
Background Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the most iconic non-avialan dinosaurs, remains a central focus of paleobiological research. Growth modeling suggests T. rex exceeded 8,000 kg within two decades an...

This was too much playing. I normally do not exceed four hours, but I churned over my practice today for my usual full time, and then had rehearsal for two hours. I am paying for my crimes.

I played my instrument for six hours today, and I’ve become a pudding. There is no longer any structural integrity to my body, and likely I shall go the way of Alex Mack (puddle) soon. Still, I was asked to be associate principal chair in my chamber orchestra. So, worth it. 😁

They have this covered now, but please consider following Bree and @courtneymilan.com for coordinating whistle printing efforts or contributing for filament. 🙏
Hey y'all! I've been sharing our linktree, but one of our printers is about to run out of filament for new whistles! If you've got ~$20 you can make hundreds of whistles happen!

My sadness at seeing videos where no one claps between movements is profound. lol My kingdom for this blessing.

In orchestral music, we try to let the music ring out and continue to fill the space between movements. It is etiquette to withhold applause until all movements of a piece are completed.

We are pairing this with Edward Elgar's Serenade for Strings in E minor, so it will be a very emotive and light (feeling) concert. Though, sorry to the wind and percussion sections, because we are definitely kicking you out for this one 😅 www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN88...
