They also did not stand up for the STUDENTS at Columbia who were beaten and jailed and whose young lives were derailed by those professors' own unwillingness to give up complicity with a genocidal apartheid settler colony.

It was only seeing a tenured professor declare they would never join an antiracist or antifascist activist group, yet who still felt threatened, when they saw someone they could identify with enough to speak up, I guess.

Academia was already so white. It is becoming whiter every day. And it’s notable to see white academics coming to the defense of a professor who immediately took to the NYT to proudly proclaim he’d never been a part of an antifascist or antiracist group.
