Whooooo ok so I know I have a lot of new followers so maybe I need to say it

I'm Jewish, I'm anti-Zionist. I believe there is a genocide in Gaza, and I do believe Israel is an apartheid state.

None of that speaks to the conditions of Jews outside Israel or antisemitism as opposed to anti-Zionism

Do you follow me and have no clue what an mst3k is?

Well...What if silly scifi framing device for riffing on awful movies?

Bear in mind this show started in the 90s, so only seasons 11 onward have uh...more modern sensibilities for jokes. But otherwise, pick a cheesy movie that sounds intriguing!

I think a big thing I struggle with, and something that is an important thing for people of my generation to attempt to understand, is separating toxic nostalgia from knowledge of the actual ways in which American life has gotten appreciably worse in my lifetime
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago

A family legend implicates my great-great uncles in a death (legend claims accident, but circumstances suggest manslaughter at the very least) in early 20th century eastern Oklahoma. I've tried to find unsolved deaths in that range but been unsuccessful. Anyone know relevant local historians?

The angry sick person answer I have to this is it was pretty charming when other people cared if I lived or died.

The fun Jessica answer is the night my husband and I found an hour and a half long video on Amazon that was just vintage movie theater ads, and watched it in total rapture.

I don’t mean this to contradict you but to add on: I’d argue that rich white kids already knew that.
Every kid in America is learning that it's perfectly okay to call people names and never face any consequences. This is all Donald Trump's doing.

as ever they don't start caring until you embarrass the lads
The pretty simple fact of the matter is that Weinstein was the only true “casualty” of MeToo in Hollywood, and that is solely because he was a bully to men too and everyone pounced on the excuse to oust him. If he’d nicer to directors and male stars he’d still be free and working.
I'm flummoxed by the underground movement to rehab cancelled figures. There's a rumor that a studio head is planning to begin bringing cancelled people back. It's bananas. The industry has contracted, leaving writers, directors and actors scrambling for work and we're making space for sex criminals?

“Cancellation limbo”: when you’re definitely not cancelled but not as celebrated as you used to be. This is one reason why “cancel culture” discourse is so tiresome: a lot of people are using it to mean “my life was affected in some negative way by my actions”

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

For the love of God, please read and share this FAQ on what powers local government has over the ICE permit
Here is a FAQ sheet that will clarify what Portland City Council does and doesn't have power to do in relation to revoking the Macadam ICE permit.

TL;DR:
(1) CC cannot unilaterally revoke the ICE permit;
(2) CC cannot lean on PP&D to do it;
(3) the CC is exercising its authority in other ways.
