the evil side up asymmetric tealight duo is unscented - you're welcome! unlike the sunny side up duo they were inspired by, these introduction a third wick because 3 is a scary number

it’s so clear he loves nyc and he loves people, well above the very low bar we are used to with politicians of all levels!

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

a critical thing to understand about the days before cell phones was that the phones, which were all numbered together, didn't move

One thing I'll say is it wasn't as difficult as you imagine to remember them since most people you knew had the same area code and city code, so really you only had to remember a bunch of 4-digit numbers. And if you're used to IDing ppl by their avs instead of their @s it feels like a similar deal

(i’m bringing ai into this because the scientific argument for it has often been that it could be used to cure disease and solve societal challenges, things that we would eventually have gotten to were we to stop slaughtering each other)

and we will never know the full scale of what we missed out on! and ai will never tell us, that’s for damn sure - even if it could, those in control wouldn't allow it unless we seize the means of its production

our society got brainwashed into thinking innovation came from immense amounts of capital, making it okay for those without to be pushed further into the margins - or in some cases around the world today, genocide.

it’s hard to fathom how many inventions, innovations, lives saved we are missing out on because of this country’s immigration policies. ai and the blockchain and whatever the tech oligarchs pitch next could never make up for that

the holiday should of course be course corrected to celebration of the indigenous community whose spirit has survived despite the best efforts of colonialism. tangentially, ettore boiardi coming to america at 16 and building his legacy is a great american story we should be enabling others to follow

the semantic web primer (2004) was one of my research texts as i was putting together my first masters thesis proposal package together (after a semester of work i went in a different direction). anyway, this passage will always make me lol
screenshot of the semantic web primer from 2004, cropped to section 1.3.5 “The Semantic Web versus Artificial Intelligence” which goes “As we have said, most of the technologies needed for the realization of the Semantic Web build upon work in the area of artificial intelligence. Given that Al has a long history, not always commercially successful, one might worry that, in the worst case, the Semantic Web will repeat Al's errors: big promises that raise too high expectations, which turn out not to be fulfilled (at least not in the promised time frame).”
