I don’t have books to sell (because magazines pay me upfront) but I do love being *read*

So, here’s a thread of my short fiction, available in text/audio for free:

It's December and people are reading for awards.

I only had one publication this year, and it's about loneliness and gender and sexual assault and girlhood and Americana and carnivorous plants.

love this thread
A very important thread. When I was probably no more than 10, I saw this picture of the woman known as Harlow in the Philly Inquirer. A little babygay, I was shocked that such a glamour queen could live in my hometown and even more shocked to see her described as "a former man."

Seriously though I have a quiet apartment with carnivorous plants and good tea, I just sold a story, I'm working on exciting [redacted] projects, my health is not bad, I have friends, I like my haircut and my wardrobe, and I'm a 90 minute drive from the coast.

That's about all teenage me wanted.

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

This is literally an episode of Scrubs
The kidney donor’s family told doctors about his skunk scratch before his organs were donated.

Doctors should’ve known skunks are one of the top 5 rabies vectors: bats, raccoons, skunks, coyotes, foxes. Several other recipients had transplants removed. One tested +

rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

Obviously this is impossible because Alan Moore looks like he's genetically a wizard, it's simply impossible to imagine what he would look like as a schoolboy oh there he is.

It's not our fault the whole scene is A MESS. If you are an artist too you aren't failing. The whole industry is getting messed up right now!!

I know a lot of the times I feel like "why am I not good enough?"

We are good enough. they are trying to hire NOBODY
For those not in those circles, I just need to remind you that losing a job to AI is not a vibes based idea. We are being told explicitly by art directors that we are being weighed against AI for jobs, people on teams fighting against the AD and you. It sucks. It’s demoralizing.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.
