I wish it hadn't required touching the stove, but we touched the stove, and people feeling fucking BURNED
Cosmically funny that, the American public has had less than a year of uncut republican governance, and they’ve decided that they absolutely hate this shit, spit it out

The fact that Aftyn Behn is quite AOC/Mamdani-ish and not some barely-left-of-center politician like Manchin seems very significant

Not saying rural TN is turning into social democrats or anything, but, at the very least, a lot of them view that as a more palpatable sort of politic than MAGA

This is a BIG DEAL. Roswell used to be as conservative and stereotypically Southern as it gets. It's one of the most affluent parts of metro Atlanta.

But it's been liberalizing a lot the past 10-15 years, becoming instead a haven for upper-middle class professionals.
JUST IN: Democrats have flipped the mayor's office in Roswell, Georgia, in tonight's runoff.

GOP Mayor Kurt Wilson conceded earlier tonight to Mary Robichaux, the Dem challenging him.

(This is a city in the Atlanta suburbs, the 9th most populous city in Georgia.)

Even if TN-07 still goes GOP, these numbers are bruuuuuutal. The backlash against MAGA is severe.

Did a night gym sesh today. Mixed things up.

Leg day + a 35 minute run. Low key hobbling around a bit now.

DeepSeak-V3.2 Speciale is beastly, on par with the proprietary SOTA models for sure

Getting into CivIdle, which definitely tickles my autistic brain despite having a fairly basic UI. But you're really building a city, not a civilization, though.

I've never laughed at anyone for losing their job to AI, and it's weird how people try to ascribe some caricature of a tech bro to marginalized people in tech to feel justified wishing horrible things upon us

good piece on Waymo's self driving cars

we can reasonably begin to look at self driving as a potential public health breakthrough, Waymo cars are much better and safer drivers than people

the problem is the economics of the technology not the technology itself

Yell at me for being a PS5 gamer, not for using AI 😤
like, the power usage for this is like ... idk, using a Playstation 5 for ten minutes, which is pretty bad, but there are _single farms_ which use more water than _all AI combined._

the funniest thing about the Falklands argument is that officially speaking Argentina does not make any claims in first settlement or indigineity.

they claim they inherited it as a Spanish colony.

me normally: yeah the UK needs to take a second look at their international history in 20th century politics, especially during the Suez Crisis

me on the Falklands: RULE BRITANNIA
every time Argentineans post their little crybully rants about the Falklands it's a reminder of the mentality that resulted in their incompetent fascist junta getting hundreds of their own conscript soldiers killed in an unprovoked invasion.

strong copyright law is stupid
strong patent law is stupid
strong IP law in general is stupid

at best, strong trademarks make sense as an anti-fraud measure

but information yearns to be free and new things are largely made by remixing the old

The plan? A campaign with the slogan: "Dear Immigrants: 'You're Getting Departed'"

MAGA will think I'm on their side, but, in fact, I will give everyone who enters the US a complimentary voucher for the DiCaprio/Damon classic redeemable on the iTunes Store

i am kind of fascinated by how many replies to this are outright prescriptive or moral answers to a very explicitly descriptive question
Whenever I mention AI on here, I am encouraged to note the difference between AI in the form of large language models (LLMs), which everyone hates, and AI in the form of machine learning (ML), which everyone seems to feel is just fine.

Question: is there a clear distinction or is it a spectrum?
