After almost 11 years together, many of which we basically saw each other as spouses, Mandy and I are married. πŸ₯°

Went to the courthouse yesterday and just had a small intimate ceremony today. It was snowing outside as it happened.

TFW you go to the PTA meeting but it's actually just a bunch of people who want to talk about One Battle After Another

I feel you completely. I was born with a collapsed lung and spent the first couple of weeks of my life in the ICU.

Without modern medicine, I'd be dead on arrival.

Instead, I survived and have ~97% of normal lung function in that lung. A few hours ago, I ran for an hour without getting winded.

anyone using language like "perversion of the natural order" is 98% of the way to fascism already
transgenderism *is* transhumanism

eyeglasses *are* a perversion of the natural order

appeal to nature fallacies are dumb, stop letting "tech bros" negatively polarize you against genuinely good and cool things

the whole point of technology is to subvert "the natural order," because the natural order is disease and decay and suffering and famine

tired: spending a bajillion dollars on a ring

wired: getting a ring that's reasonably priced and looked like it's an artifact from a fantasy novel

Germans in the 1800s wanting cheap land

Ulster Scots in the 1700s wanting to be able to be Presbyterian in peace

Also a handful of English, including John Alden, who never intended to stay in the US but was hired as the Mayflower's cooper and then fell in love with Priscilla and stayed
Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?

Take care of yourself and your mental health first and foremost. Relaxing myself and not paying too much to the feed.

The most virulent British transphobe is a lifelong Labour voter (JK Rowling)
February 3, 2026 at 12:40 AM
The key difference here is that the UK has deeply entrenched "left-wing" TERFy transphobia in a way the US never has.

That said, don't vote for him in the primary and strive for better.
The problem with Newsom I see is he could very well end up becoming another Keir Starmer who in the UK was also voted for "lesser evil" reasons but actually drove Labour into an even more transphobic direction than even the effing Tories once were.
February 3, 2026 at 12:37 AM
> Do you think it's at all possible that a man with no convictions like Newsom could end up doing more damage in the long term?

No, not compared to outright fascists.

leftists 🀝 gavin newsom

pretending gavin newsom is the front-runner in a primary that hasn't started
Who's pretending the primary has already started and he's already won, besides Gavin Newsom?
February 2, 2026 at 10:36 PM
All in favor of finding a better candidate. There's a lot of time before the primary still, and I do think Newsom will probably fizzle out.
February 3, 2026 at 12:20 AM
Newsom is against trans women in sports but generally wants us to be able to safely exist as ourselves.

Trump wants us dead or forcibly detransitioned.

Trans people deserve better. But I'll take the former over the latter in a heartbeat.
February 3, 2026 at 12:12 AM
I'm being told it's a betrayal of trans people to vote for Newsom should he make it to the general.

I'm trans. I felt betrayed that a lot of people refused to vote for Kamala. It's made my life a lot harder she lost, even if she's not perfect.

Same would apply to Newsom.

Like I do think we could hypothetically put a data center in space if we tried. I do think that's within our capabilities.

But it'll wind up being so cost prohibitive that it feels like there's no way in hell it's actually a sound financial decision.

One of the things I've yet to see any super compelling solution to is cosmic radiation.

You can harden electronics against radiation (what is done with spacecraft already), but then the costs go up by more than an order of power.

Part of the goal is having robots permanently onboard that can maintain things.

I'm pretty skeptical of the concept being worth it, though, at least with our current level of tech.
February 2, 2026 at 11:41 PM
Not wasting time arguing with people who clearly are incapable of telling the difference between "I like Gavin Newsom" and "I hate Gavin Newsom and would never vote for him in a primary, but it's still worth having him win over a Republican if it comes to it"
