people become terrorists when they get engineering degrees, offering us a simple solution.

It's taken for granted that when people are in bad enough circumstances, they become terrorists because they have nothing else to live for, but actually that doesn't seem to be the pattern at all.

the best anarchists are the people who are genuinely kind of saintly themselves, and just a little bit naive about the fact that the rest of humanity is fallen.

your tactic of protesting in an inflatable frog suit which gets normal people on your side is far inferior to my tactic of posting about laser blinding helicopter pilots which is both wildly illegal and, were it to succeed, would put basically *everyone* against me

This will be the hill I die on, “porn addiction” is not real, that phrase specifically is used as a dog whistle and is backed only by pseudoscience which has been created by right wing fascist organisations with the intention to demonise minorities. It is not real, actual science proves it isn’t.

lmao, how is it a stormfront meme? "israeli" is a synthetic settler colonial nationality that has coopted every single one of its supposedly defining characteristics from other ethnicities

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

one reason I disagree with the idea that "redemption arcs" do more harm than good is the fact that right now we can clearly see there's a world leader who, through toxic influence from the fascists surrounding him, is not renouncing fascism to get into heaven

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

His feet are light and nimble. He never sleeps. He says that he will never die. He dances in light and in shadow and he is a great favorite. He never sleeps, the president. He is dancing, dancing. He says that he will never die.

i get kind of annoyed that the political compass has caused a lot of people to view liberalism, conservatism, etc as a gradient that you can move “four left and two up” instead of as a series of distinct political philosophies with their own unique assumptions about the world and its ideal state

So one thing I'm pretty convinced of is you can't legislate or policy your way out of culture war stuff. We'll see how that holds up! The tech world is indeed changing its dei policies in all the ways right wingers want. My prediction: they'll still find themselves angry and upset with the culture.

Ultimately, the death of US manufacturing is about this attitude. It's easy to say "buy american or stfu" because virtue signaling is free. But it's hard to actually sustain a business because many Americans simply don't want to pay what it costs to produce things ethically in this country
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

the killdozer guy became this only semi-ironic epic hero for the average man who will be oppressed no longer, which is funny, because if you read anything about the background it becomes like 100% clear that he was in the wrong. Which makes sense! His actions are not those of a reasonable person!

If you’ve paid any attention to Trump, you can plainly see he’s terrified of dying. His death marks the obliteration of the only thing he’s ever thought about.

This sudden obsession with the afterlife sure is, uh, notable. Doubly so now that he thinks he’s bound for hell.

I really wouldn’t be shining lasers at helicopters if I were you. It’s illegal and could cause an aircraft to crash - and that could kill a LOT of people, in the air and on the ground.

And the ICE goons appear to be *salivating* at the chance to claim people that they arrest were doing this:

Absolute idiots. If you see somebody doing this, stop them. If you come across the fliers encouraging it, trash them. It's not a prank, it's not a protest, it's a literal violent crime endangering the public.

OHSU said air ambulance vendors are not going to land at the hospital helipad Saturday; instead, they'll land at other airports and transfer patients via ambulance.
