Thing that I didn't realize until I was an adult is that a lot of people live nowhere near real nature so think that farms are nature. It's a bizarre phenomenon, but it makes sense in places like Ireland or the UK
Haven’t tweeted in like a year and still doing the numbers

Yeah, it's a regional harvest festival that was boosted into a national religious holiday because the relevant region was winning a Civil War that was viewed by many as part of the war between good and evil that would culminate with the apocalypse
Lincoln’s original proclamation of Thanksgiving Day from 1863 doesn’t really go into colonist-native relations, but it does recommend “humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience.” www.battlefields.org/learn/primar...

More than anything else, this feels like a late roman empire headline
The vibe here is really "guy who was part of a U.S.-aligned death squad got told he's getting sent back to Afghanistan to die"
well that tracks

(also should put to rest any bleating about “vetting” but we live in hell so)

Views on LLM-generated code at the moment:

1. Pretty good at writing tests, to the point that it's probably reduced the amount of time I spend on this by 50%
2. When it can one shot a change, it saves a bunch of time
3. If it doesn't, it'll usually just produce a giant pile of awful code

Desis have won in NYC and are now oppressing the Italians 😤
Was not expecting this blatant xenophobia on my tv first thing in the morning...

Look it's fine if you think this is dumb because plant based meat is fine anyway and people should just switch, but a lot of the discourse on this has the same energy as people who get mad at lab grown diamonds because the only way to show love is via environmental damage and unethical labor

People say that RSS feeds are great, but mine was just full of pro-Modi stuff.

I feel like there's an interesting assumption in a lot of the discourse on the Park Ave protest that it failed. It seems to have raised awareness of the illegal settlements and the fact that American institutions are supportive of them. The NYT article was cagey but did ack this

Genuinely do not understand cheesecake on any level
no, I've never had a pie as good as a cheesecake because some pies are good and cheesecake is uniformly awful
I get a lot of hate for this view and in turn I'd only ask if you've ever had a pie as good as a typical cheesecake. The answer is no, you have not. Cheesecake invalidates the whole pie category. Hell, regular cake barely survives the cheesecake onslaught on the strength of carrot cake alone.

You have to pretend some switch flipped or he had a profound mystical character arc because the alternative is revealing that you as a journalist have been writing ad copy for a garden variety crackpot, and you fell for it entirely cause he had some social status.
All the Camelot shit really broke people huh. You can’t just say a guy is a rich crank who thinks he’s smarter than everybody, he has to cut some sort of a tragic figure

"aliens" being included on these is always insane to me. 44% of Americans believe we are alone in the entire universe?????
New polling on aliens
% of U.S. adult citizens who believe the following definitely or probably exist:
Aliens 56%
Bigfoot 28%
The Yeti 23%
The Loch Ness Monster 22%
Chupacabra 16%

Honestly bizarre choice among Mamdani's demographic characteristics to be surprised intersects with poker
what?

Bluesky seems to have a lot of that anti new atheist ideology where you do the 90s lib pluralism that led to the RFRA and pretend the many negative consequences of this ideology are outweighed by the fact that a few prominent aughts atheists were about as racist as a typical centrist pundit

The fact that both Eric Adams and Adrienne Adams were secret nimbys, not looking good for our goat John Quincy 😔

Stancil isn't a transphobe, he beefs a lot with trans people because he beefs a lot with everyone. He's never walked away from a single argument in his life. Even when he's doing an extremely dumb argument like the housing stuff I do have to respect the hater energy
No, I do not “pick on” trans people, I have never done anything like this. And frankly, I think the willingness of some people to completely invent accusations of transphobia in the desperate search for a cudgel against ideological opponents suggests they don’t really care about transphobia
Listen dude, you can try and ride for this guy all you want, but the trans userbase of this platform fucking hates him because he picks on them. I'm going to listen to the trans people I know who are telling me he's bad. Plus I've been in these threads and seen it

Simultaneously true that everyone who voted trump to avoid a Kamala war is the dumbest person ever and that Harris probably should've not done all her messaging assuming it was 2004 and everyone thinks the Democrats are implicitly surrender monkey hippies who don't do wars

ok like obviously the chatbot didn't help but this person started out believing that a board game from the same company that makes monopoly lets you communicate with dead people
I'm literally just living a normal life while also experiencing a theophany via communication with the satellite called VALIS.

Yeah honestly I don't get this at all. Water is simply not a particularly scarce resource and datacenters don't actually use that much of it
You can actually see the effects on your power bill but people are obsessed with the water angle for reasons I don’t understand

You absolutely need to change this headline. It's unacceptable and disrespectful to the people harmed by the pollution.

This article itself makes it clear that the water pollution linked to cancer and miscarriages is coming entirely from nitrate pollution from farms.

I think basically Mamdani is trying to be the mayor of New York in a very narrowly focused way and that's not really what a lot of his supporters, especially the ones outside New York, wanted. It's the same kind of disappointment as might happen if Peltola decides to run for AK-GOV instead of AK-SEN
