In what other field is it acceptable to fuck up this much? Like even if we assume good faith (for the purpose of this argument), how is this not a catastrophic error

a big problem here is the way every scrap of a claim about Democrats supposedly selling out gets hyped and inflated, and then even when it turns out to be untrue people remember it as having happened, or as having almost happened. Builds bad mental models.
the post everyone got mad about for two hours has been updated turns out it's the opposite actually

four basic types of cop shows:
1. you won’t BELIEVE what kinds of crimes we solve
2. you won’t BELIEVE how we solve crimes
3. you won’t BELIEVE where we solve crimes
4. you won’t BELIEVE who we’re letting solve crimes

Just because Stephen Miller apparently believes that he can disregard public opinion as long as he can direct state violence, doesn't mean that isn't insanely self-destructive and wrongheaded on his part.

let's say the president wants to suppress the vote in detroit. assuming a conventional 20 soldiers for every 1000 civilians ration, he would need more than 12,000 ICE agents — more than double the current number of field officers — to occupy detroit and only detroit, a city of 630,000 people
imho people are focusing on the words "cancel the midterms" and saying uh actually a president cannot do that at the expense of what they would actually try to do, ie send troops/ice into liberal cities to suppress the vote
the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?

The nature of LA is while people into this shit are gonna be very visible, because of money, there are proportionally much fewer of them than there are in basically any red state in the country
I hate LA so much lol

YOU don't have to rely on these networks to be informed, it's a bit trickier when even before now 30k people want vizier status w/ a rep

I don't think people are prepared for what happens if the US actually invades Greenland (even the best case scenarios). They think it's the same as the US invading Iraq or Afghanistan, but it's not even remotely comparable. We should all pray to whatever we believe in that it does not come to pass.

This honestly feels like just not if the same delusion us Americans are blinded by, that bad consequences can’t actually happen to us
If Trump invades Greenland, the Europeans won't fight back, Republicans will defend it, Democrats will issue statements, there will be protests, and most Americans will disapprove of it enough to earn Democrats a bit more of the vote in November. Then on to the next thing.
More than an attempted coup, where a mob tried to seize Congress on live television did? There's not going to be an implosion about anything. It's either a slow slide towards oblivion where everything gets incrementally worse as people try to live normally, or a slow grind in the opposite direction.

Obviously there are Republicans gloating about Renee Good’s murder and while those are disgusting they are a minority. I honestly find the “normie” Republican justification more disgusting though (and it looks like the press is picking up that one)

Lived in a household where my parents got the paper, wanted to read it also because that seemed cool, but only the comics were on my level. I then read every single comic in the whole paper. Maybe this is not normal for normal people but it has to be a common Bluesky story
why did so many millennials read so many newspaper comics? easily 60 percent of my reading diet in elementary/middle school was collected editions of calvin and hobbes, farside, dilbert, peanuts, doonesbury (!), foxtrot (?!?) and i know im not alone. historically unique phenomenon
rather than talk about Scott Adams I want to talk about something weirder (me). Who else was really into Dilbert when you were 12. Who else was like, boy, I can't wait to work a cubicle job
