copyright is not a magical natural law thing that “protects artists”. it’s a legal engineering artifact that has been built on and manipulated for 100 years to protect the financial interests of entertainment megacorps and, in practice, mostly stifles creativity bsky.app/profile/fili...
Again, the only thing copyright maximalism can deliver is a world where AI models are very expensive and licensed from the likes of Getty and Universal Studios, not a world without AI.

Here it is spelled out in the Ars Technica article. arstechnica.com/information-...

While visibility in pricing is good, that's like step 0 in reaching affordability. Only an idiot would think it's the last step in magically changing prices overnight, even in regular market dynamics, you have to have environment and structure that makes it easy for competition to permit innovation
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

The main values of unis right now are archives, labs, and some legacy networking. Esp when they're spatially together, other than that the entire of function of instruction and evaluations could be virtual or hybrid, with some aspects out-sourced to home or 3rd party vendors and come out cheaper.
Do the universities have no responsibility for what happened? I don’t like the leftist argument that things just happen to institutions with multi-billion dollar endowents. Their vast DEI & HR bureaucracy has failed many staff and students eg www.nytimes.com/2024/10/16/m...

There is a demographic crisis, but there's a reasonable chance that enough machine intelligence is developed to offset parts of that in well deployed automation coupled with AI in manufacturing. I don't think it's end gamey as Zeihan portrays.
I’ve heard all kinds of wild takes about China. But the idea there is no possibility of risk from demographic extremes like never seen in history, might be the worst.
No it's not. Because they have invested so much in automation and still have a real economy based on production. There is no existential demographic crisis in China.
