Mike is one of the best writers I know, able to cover nasty subjects clearly and ruthlessly without straying away from his enormous heart. So much of himself went into this book. The bits I’ve had the pleasure of reading so far are illuminating, moving, and reflective — but never corny or stretched.
It was designed by two Azerbaijani artists who created something similar for the UN in 2017.
if i was still a race reporter, i'd maybe write about how the image looks almost exactly like the image on the first edition on the cover of the deeply racist novel "the camp of the saints" which is in vogue with the racists running this country (and beyond).

Friends know I nearly killed myself writing it. I tried something different from other Trump-era books about the right. It emphasizes ordinary lives over extremists.
There's also stuff about what was happening inside SPLC and... it doesn't exactly measure up to the standards of a civil rights org!
