I am so fucking cursed this month i have lost a SECOND pill i can't afford to take an extra of and this time it literally disappeared from my hamd picking up my drink to swallow it, even worse than going to get a drink and standing up and hearing it hit the floor. I have no idea where it went.

#4 the last strong message that democrats ran on? Which I personally remember enthusiastically voting for?

This. One word. No focus test shit. And happens to literally be the same message Mamdani just won on.

But they refuse to ever run someone who can embody it again so it'd be false advertising

Perfect natural experiment. If Biden and Congress had treated the Jan 6th insurrection like the treason it was and jailed the people behind it, Trump’s power would have shriveled on the vine.

In case you were wondering where to send your thoughts on the AI "dub" of Banana Fish, you can do so here.

Be polite--and I *mean* that--but so long as you're polite, feel free to let them know exactly how you feel about the AI "dub."
That I can do.

Search Prime Video for the title (I went with Banana Fish), then click on Details, and scroll past the Cast page to "Send Us Feedback."

As someone who works in the tech industry--absolutely.

They are testing the waters. These are top-down orders. The ONLY way to stop it is a visceral negative reaction. Write articles. Post your rage. Email. Post. @. All those things.

Only you have the power to kill it.
Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this.

The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

The worst part is that people keep saying the same optimistic stuff like "don't worry you'll get back on your feet".

Sure, if it's a flare up. But if it's the new status quo and you're running out of treatment, that's a very different thing.
I think the coolest thing about disability, bar none, is how it continues to progress and shit gets more and more difficult by the day/week/year and just when you’re like “cool I figured out how to accommodate this and live my life” your body says “oh fuck that! ALL HANDS ON DECK HES ADAPTING”

Lrt: I don't support punitive justice forever guilt that people can't come back from, but the time to suggest uncancelling someone is when news about them is heavily skewed towards examples of putting the work in and not having a fucking pity party which is what actually happens 90% of the time.

Since Louis CK is in the news again, it's worth restating that he never gave an honest accounting of his sexual misconduct—his initial "apology" and his subsequent statements have been contradicted by the testimony of his victims, and contained elisions and gaps intended to exonerate him.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Tbh the biggest reason I don't really vibe with iding communism is that under it, it seems I am either considered boutgeoisie for labor that i find functionally identical to hairdressing (a trade I had to quit for health reasons) or lumpen.

You expect me to fight a revolution to still be othered?
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

"Death of the Author" doesn't mean separating the author's bad behaviour from their art. It means taking away their authority and allowing readers to interpret the art based on their own perspectives. It doesn't absolve the author of being a bastard, in fact it may inform how you interpret the art.

Periodically I see people justifying means-testing to ensure The Rich don't get stuff for free when they can afford it.

I see the logic, but we can just tax them more.

Plus, the BIGGEST thing not means-testing solves is

IT STOPS RICH PEOPLE FINANCIALLY-ABUSING THEIR KIDS ANYMORE.

Next, I disabled OneDrive and remapped things properly, which did take some doing.

Finally, I disabled Copilot. Which I'm pretty sure also took some doing.

So far, no complaints.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.
