I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
The Columbia Heights school district says ICE detained four of its students, including a 5-year-old boy, as "bait" to draw out family members.

I'm from the Biobío region, where devastating fires happened this weekend. Although Chile has progressed in DDR,still structural constraints(urban informality) define the disasters effect on vulnerable populations.Adapting institutional structures to face these atrocious events is crucial and urgent.

I will be there, and speaking at it! Hope to see you there too! organized by some rockstars like Hannah Kerner and @estherrolf.bsky.social so I expect it to be pretty awesome

The special theme of the workshop this year is “ML4RS: publication to practice”, focusing on bridging gaps between research and real-world applications. The submission deadline is February 06, 2026, and the call for papers is available here-> ml-for-rs.github.io/iclr2026/#ca...

In good news, your advocacy for science funding is paying off! Congress has just rejected the massive cuts to NASA's 2026 budget.

(Sadly, they didn't include a provision for saving @ncar-ucar.bsky.social but we use this win to keep fighting!)
You just saved NASA's budget

Ooo didn’t know about this gonna go see if it was recorded!!!
Sigh. Shutting down the National Center for Atmospheric Research will make the world a more dangerous place for all of us.

I’m one of the ProPublica reporters who has been documenting the aggressive tactics federal agents are using against immigrants & U.S. citizens

All eyes are on Minnesota right now, but I want to tell you about Arnoldo Bazan, a 16-YO citizen in Houston who was choked by immigration agents in October
Stunning photos from Minneapolis, including this one by John Locher for the Associated Press. www.theatlantic.com/photography/...
I really want ppl w/o Minneapolis connections to understand

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

There aren't a lot of resources for what people can do to prevent the destruction of NCAR, so I made this:

Eos @eos.org · Dec 18
At an @agu.org Town Hall today, @ncar-ucar.bsky.social President Antonio Busalacchi spoke to #AGU25 attendees about what's at stake if NCAR is dismantled.

One attendee asked anyone who uses NCAR research to stand up. Almost everyone in the room stood.

#AGU25 folks, there is a rapid- response town hall TODAY on the #NCAR dismantling at 1 pm, La Nouvelle Orleans ballroom C (per an AGU media advisory)

I really believe in the quality and value of all the science with and for society y’all are doing. We have to keep finding a way!!!!

Filled with rage but also gratitude for friendship and colleagues. Jonathan Frame, Veda Sunkara, Khalid Osman, Heather Fischer, Jess Guo, Rohit Mukherjee, Zhijie Zhang, @lucasbelury.bsky.social , Brooke Cox, Jonathan Giezendanner, Seth Bryant… and so many more I didn’t get a selfie with!

Just yesterday afternoon I was working with brilliant ncar colleagues to figure out how to make better flood risk maps with ai for the public. I’m sad I may not get to write and submit that proposal I think would have had a huge impact on science and society

While I had an amazing #agu25 learning new science, sharing my own, and catching up with colleagues/students/mentors and friends I adore in fabulous New Orleans, I am so upset and unsettled by the new that ncar is at risk.
I wrote to my representatives @hirono.senate.gov @schatz.bsky.social, and Ed Case to tell them to stop the dismantlement of NCAR. You can do the same with your representatives at this link.
Save NCAR from being dismantled today!

Time to repurpose #AGU25 as a mass mobilization in support of NCAR, NSF, NOAA, NASA, USGS, DOE BER, and the Congressional power of the purse.
Unbelievable. This would be a terrible blow to American science, writ large. It would decimate not only climate research, but also the kind of weather, wildfire, and disaster research that has underpinned half a century of progress in prediction, early warning, and increased resilience.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

Social pixel lab past and some of present! Love hanging with these scientists! Maybe all my funding won’t get terminated this year and I’ll recover funding from the 15 grants I am writing so my full group can come to agu 2026??!? A girl can dream #alliwantforchristmas is my funding back

and...for the correct times for our talks (last pic had wrong times!) use this for #agu25 for Social Pixel Lab talks!

Thank you! Hope you are well! Been perma fundraising since I lost everything and a few things have come thru! Replaced 30 percent of what I’ve lost so far. Doing my best to keep folks employed and early career people at least going to one conference if I can!!!
