Autistic researcher with too many interests and no real intention of narrowing it down. Mostly AAC research at the moment. Sometimes a math teacher.

I swam competitively from 4-18. (Mom put me on the swim team when I became disruptively bored at the 4yo swim lessons.)

There's an annual rhythm to life when you swim. The meet weekend I missed bc of chicken pox was the longest weekend of my childhood. I can't imagine losing access to it like this.
For @teenvogue.com I wrote about the death of trans athlete Lia Smith and how trans youth kind themselves with central pillars of their lives being constantly ripped away from them because of politics. www.teenvogue.com/story/politi...
Politicizing Transgender Athletes Is Dangerous. Lia Smith Deserved Better.

My brain has decided that instead of successfully sleeping what I should do is try to figure out how to explain part time AAC use / intermittent, unreliable, insufficient, and expensive speech IN CHINESE

Not a direct translation, but doing it near-fresh for a Chinese audience

I have to confess "your browser's AI can be made to steal your banking info via prompt injection because it runs with full privileges and treats all text as equally authoritative sources of instructions, including the text of pages it's summarising" is more surprising to me than it should have been.

I explained the client's civil remedies, but most people don't have 2-5 years to pursue them.

"So why are you congratulating me? I still lost. All you're saying is they took almost everything from me instead of everything."

The purpose of a system is what it does.

I explained that unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

This story is infinitely more important than GTA getting delayed. Don't let me catch you moaning about waiting longer for a video game if you're not mad about why it happened.

This is physiognomy with a computer added.

It's racism dressed up as science. I can't say this enough. It's as reliable as the trend of "face reading" on TikTok a while ago.

But if you won't listen to me, here's a white lady saying the same things: youtu.be/NyUT2DxBiDM?...

Good thread, and I will add that men DO NOT LIKE IT when women say "hey, you fucked up," and to the extent that women tend to soften the blow with indirectness, it's because men feel like their honor is insulted if they have to take feedback from women.
I'm not linking to that NYT piece today, but of all the horrible parts of it, this was the worst. This was an explanation of "female vices" in the workplace and LET ME JUST TELL YOU...

The Reddit community r/Democrats has a conspicuous absence of any news about Zohran Mamdani today. But that's by design.

The moderators have rules that ban people from talking about democratic socialists.

My takeaway from the elections yesterday is that it’s one thing to be unpopular and have a large portion of the media apparatus desperate to pretend that’s not the case but it’s another thing to be unpopular and have that be an undeniable fact

Big tech continues to demonstrate its’ alignment with fascists. BAN FACIAL RECOGNITION
We've found DHS is giving local cops a new facial recognition app to find immigrants. Point camera at face, tells the cop to detain person or not. The app is available on Google's Play Store. Google took down apps that report ICE sightings but now hosts this app

DHS Gives Local Cops a Facial Recognition App To Find Immigrants
The app, called Mobile Identify and available on the Google Play Store, is specifically for local and regional law enforcement agencies working with ICE on immigration enforcement.

not disagree with Steve. I think this is deliberate. They are trying to make the law they want by acting as if it already exists. pretty consistent across the admin.
It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*

The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

Which in turn implies that one could do suppressing fire with subway sandwiches.
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.
