I guess I'm on here now as well, if only just to stake my claim.
Will I use this for actual posting?
Probably not, if I'm honest.

Still.
I'm here now too.
For given values of "here".

The part I hate most is when they decide to have the bark delay by some time as a "oh if the player doesn't notice it, THEN we'll give them a hint", then when I play I enter the room and am like "oh what a cool room, I will explore and enjoy the ambiance a minute" and I exceed the timer and it Barks
If you're making a game for the players who absolutely need extremely high-frequency nagging barks from an NPC, you're kind of making a game for no one *but* those players

One thing I keep hearing about my puzzle game INFLUX REDUX is "i didn't think i would like it because i'm not into puzzle games but it isn't what i expected". WELL. I made it and I'm not into puzzle games either. OR ball rolling games. I haven't played ANYTHING. so buy it and find out if you like it
Hey everyone! The remaster I've been working on for like 6 years is out! It's a remaster of my 11 year old game InFlux! It's a marble-rolling puzzle game! You can buy it! Please leave positive reviews for it so the algo doesn't immediately bury it?!?! Ily

what is most hard is that running a successful games business is diametrically opposed to making a good game and almost every dev is trying to walk a fine line between certain economic collapse and total player delight

I'll be honest: dunno that I'm willing to buy a "we HAVE to force tutorialization down players' throats" argument in a period where games like counterstrike, dota, minecraft, roblox et al are some of the most popular games in the world

Metroid is a fascinating study of fandoms vs shifting official presentation, clashing visions of what and who a character is, and also of a franchise that is way more popular overseas than it is in its home country.
The entire fandom’s (and Retro Studios) initial assumption: “Oh she hunts down the baddest monsters in the galaxy and gets paid for it, right?”

Nintendo: “What? No. She’s like humanity’s motherly guardian. What are you talking about.”

Ubisoft and Treyarch resorting to regurgitative AI in their big $70 “AAA” games is simply pathetic.

The lack of integrity, the lack of dignity, the lack of pride. Sure, it’s all expected, but nonetheless miserably *pathetic* to witness.

Have some fucking self respect for once.

one function of capitalism is to funnel these types into positions of power, because if competent & kind people get into power they start taking from the rich and giving to the poor. capitalist leaders must be either evil or ignorant or both, only by mistake does anyone else get near power
What if we could have leaders who aren't either evil monsters or spineless weenies

God imagine spending $70 on a game and then however much on top on DLC. For this garbage.
Call of Duty isn't even hiding the fact that loads of its calling cards and other unlockables are AI generated this year.

For one of the biggest video game franchises in the world this is pretty disgusting...

One thing I keep hearing at @godotfest.com: The reason people switched to Godot is because Unity kept houding them for license payments.

Game companies, universities, researchers, they all tell the same story: They've paid. They still got hounded. No new features, but higher costs. So they switched

i think a good lesson for game devs would be to remember that people don't really talk to themselves. when they do, it's "ah fuck" or "really?" and, again, it's rare. i lived alone for many years and i am happy to consult on this. i DO talk to my cat, of course. you could put a cat in.

Who the fuck thought Samus needed a comedy sidekick guy?

We take animals and kids away from bad people.
We should do the same with both teams developing a game *and* the custodians of any *gag* IP. If either side fails to uphold and cherish a world and its characters, it gets taken away from them.

It always feels... weird to have to chase down a company to pay them?

Like... hello, your people did a great job for me, thank you so much, but it's been two weeks? Are you okay? Can I get an invoice so I can give you money so you can continue existing? Please and thank you?
