If you work a studio that’s been nominated for a Game Award this year (or even years’ past), I would love to speak to you about your experience getting tickets! How many did your studio get? How many did you buy?

stories about robots and AI are some of my absolute top favorite stories of all time which is why it actually sucks to be me in the present day because i am pretty sure that all of that stuff is the reason why we currently have very shitty quote unquote "AI" and a ton of lies about it and a bubble

i got tired of "how to read more" advice from people who are book critics and don't own tvs and live in monasteries with no wifi, so here is some advice from someone with a terminal case of internet brain www.shesabeast.co/how-to-read-...
how to read more

this post brought to you by me playing System Shock for the first time and having just watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time

i understand why when people go back and watch/play formative and influential works, they are underwhelmed because they've seen it copied so many times. idk how exactly but i am able to evade this by role-playing in my brain as someone who hasn't seen it yet. it works for me

nothing like spending 24 hours fixing a massive problem with the computer that i built to make me feel like both the most annoyed person on earth and, now, the smartest person on earth

we're saying someone's birth is a "premiere" now?
The singer Carly Rae Jepsen and the movie ‘Rocky IV’ premiered 40 years ago today 🎂

1. games industry decimated by layoffs
2. journalism decimated by layoffs
3. decades of precedent of people assuming all content online should be free and also not wanting to look at ads
4. impending AI bubble burst and economic downstream effects of that

we do a thing in our house with tv/movies where sometimes we just click on something, knowing nothing other than the title and a chosen screengrab. not every day or week but sometimes. i think it's good, critically, to NOT always know what you're in for. we watched All's Fair because of this. lmfao

for about six months now (maybe longer, i haven't been keeping track), my wife and i have been going on ~45-60 min walks together every day. the way it works is we schedule it. like, we put it into our (work) calendars. my watch vibrates to remind me, like any other calendar event. i recommend this.

it's funny how the initialism "DEI" gets deployed to obscure its own meaning, by framing it like a policy, like ACA, or an agency, like DHS. if you write "efforts to erase diversity" instead of "efforts to erase DEI," you're describing what Trump is doing much more clearly and truthfully!
when we talk about efforts to "erase DEI" can we be more precise and say "efforts to re-segregate workplaces and schools"

Since 1981, Chicago Women in Trades has worked to promote equity by getting more women into the construction trades. Now the nonprofit faces a different challenge: Trump's efforts to erase DEI. n.pr/4pmCNr2

it's funny that the dispatch fandom refers to the no-romance ending as the "friendzoned" ending colloquially because usually that term is gendered against women but in this case it's a game about two women throwing themselves at you and you (male protag) having to actively work to friendzone *them*

need a game with a protagonist who sends increasingly erratic ADHD-driven voice notes to their friends
i think a good lesson for game devs would be to remember that people don't really talk to themselves. when they do, it's "ah fuck" or "really?" and, again, it's rare. i lived alone for many years and i am happy to consult on this. i DO talk to my cat, of course. you could put a cat in.

make a game where we hear the character’s thoughts and do it right, where it’s non-stop and overwhelming and obnoxious and scattered and confused and hung up on remembering the name of that one actor for no reason and randomly mortified by unrelated shit that happened 30 years ago etc.
