it's not like i WANT IT to happen, i just don't see an alternative because it's not like "slowly re-invest the money elsewhere" ever happens around here

that's fair. people love it, fwiw! it has sold very well

i don't ascribe to ignoring "problematic" media. i love the movie Die Hard and it's conservative; i'm not conservative but i still see what's effective about it. Dispatch is similar; the world is crime-ridden & therefore makes the extreme overreach of superhero cops a necessity & makes you want that

i follow a lot of professional video game critics and journalists actually and was referring to them, not "fans"

yeah, also x-men as a franchise is Too Large, and its power scaling allows for all sorts of bullshit according to whatever the story needs. magneto is as powerful or weak as he needs to be. avatar/korra has much more tightly controlled lore in comparison
November 5, 2025 at 7:41 PM
ACTUALLY (sorry) magneto is often shown (in comics and other adaptations) doing this even when people have minimal iron in their blood. he's just that powerful. but, per my other reply to kris, this isn't a thing in the bender-verse

it doesn't happen, i think because metalbending is already a rarely used subset of earthbending, because it requires bending the "impurities" in the metal rather than the metal itself. metal is apparently not earth. or, so says the lore --> avatar.fandom.com/wiki/Metalbe...
Metalbending
Metalbending is a specialized sub-skill of earthbending that allows an earthbender to ferrokinetically bend natural and processed metal in a similar fashion to bending regular earth. Long regarded an ...

oh yeah, i also was a young voter back then who definitely didn't read his book (for one thing) and unwittingly bought into a lot of the "he's *so* leftist!!" hype that, if anything, his haters were saying far more than he and his campaign were. which is funny, bc it may have helped him somewhat!
November 5, 2025 at 7:02 PM
and also being hot, which i'm not ever going to deny is a huge factor lol

i imagine mamdani will have to compromise in very different ways... new york politics is its own quagmire of highly specific bullshit. but i think he believes what he says, even if he can't end up acting on it. again that might be naive on my part but it's my perception
November 5, 2025 at 6:47 PM
the real "times has changed" thing to me is that a person could run on a platform of actually being all the stuff that obama's haters said he was (and which he denied). but then win. ofc nyc mayor is not the same as the presidency but you'd never know that based on how mainstream outlets covered it
November 5, 2025 at 6:46 PM
the mamdani/obama comparison is interesting to me because obama's haters also cast him as an extreme leftist, or even a communist, but his actual policies, in office, were pretty centrist. maybe it's really naive but i can't see that being the case for mamdani. i guess we'll find out soon enough
November 5, 2025 at 6:42 PM
yeah, it's sold over a million copies! i agree that you wouldn't miss much if you watched it on youtube, but i also think people are clearly willing to pay for stuff like this, even if that's the case. which is interesting
November 5, 2025 at 5:23 PM
you could take out the superheroes and it's just brooklyn 99 again. it's cops, coworkers falling in love, etc.
November 5, 2025 at 5:14 PM
lowercase c conservative romcoms are a guilty pleasure for me, so i can deal with this, now that i know what it is. i don't love how blue some of the humor is in this game (just not to my personal taste), but it's the type of thing i'd watch while folding laundry. so yeah. it's fine.
November 5, 2025 at 5:08 PM
okay, fine: i think people's patience for this game will depend a lot on whether they are OK with it being a mid-tier romcom rather than a biting satire of superheroes. the world it's presenting is actually p conservative, but that makes sense when you think about how conservative romcoms often are
