VGHF recently archived a LucasArts press CD-ROM from 1996 as part of the GamePro archives, including a full history of the company to date: https://archive.gamehistory.org/item/fc835949-e496-47ff-9800-e8f5428e01e2 (The LucasArts .com website got '5,000 visits a day' back in 1996!)

DIY is imperfect. Resources are incredible. I’ve done this both ways and I know how much better things would be with resources. But life post-salary requires a DIY/zine mentality, which is inherently elastic and pluralistic and requires more than any boss should ask of you. You have to want that.

On Monday, Yacht Club Games delayed the much-anticipated upcoming game Mina the Hollower.

obviously, plenty of exceptions on itch.io. but it's far more common for a young developer to believe their project will pay their bills rather than feed their soul. both of which are important, but often conflict

yeah. i can't stop thinking about the need to decenter money as the core motivation. so many art forms are now done knowing money is unlikely, freeing up a focus on the art. local bands. blogs. increasingly film. but games still seems (broadly) locked into being a "business"
