Do they teach this in journalism school? Are there classes where the lesson goes “the way to do headlines is uncritically repeat whatever officials say, regardless of veracity, that’s the job”?

And if they’re not taught that, if that’s not the field’s chosen standard, why do so many editors do it?
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

So much of this hits home with me. We were so lucky to be able to afford to get my dad into a care facility near us. But the subsequent four years were some of the hardest (and yet best) I’ve ever had.

Forever indebted to a few close friends who had the wherewithal to ask “how are things really?”
Very hard eldercare and logistics is a subject I have extensive experience with. This article nails why it's so hard, including logistics, $, coordination w/ family, $ again, & no one wants to hear you talk about it. The author acknowledges she had a lot of resources others won't. Gift link:

Props to the protestors who the New York Times credits for foiling ICE’s intended raid in Chinatown earlier today.

So many people are showing they know what it means to be New Yorkers!

A crazy thing happened here on Thanksgiving — long story short, we didnt Have power in my apartment on and off for 5 days last August, we’ve been fighting for a rent reduction for a month and paid less once because of it, then I found out they dinged my credit to the tune of 200 points

The other art from FASA I really appreciate from an aesthetic perspective are their deck plans. Canonicity be damned, they look pretty. /11

If you read this one sentence summary and think “oh interesting,”watch this movie immediately. It floored me. (And then come listen to us talk about it.)
This week's SBG bonus episode is on PENDA'S FEN, a striking BBC teleplay from 1974 wherein an incredibly uptight young man through a series of increasingly anomalous encounters learns to interrogate British identity, personal history, sexuality, religion, and more: www.patreon.com/posts/shelve...

People will die, and are currently dying, because RFK was granted one of the most powerful megaphones in the country. Two people who could have thrown barriers in front of his climb decided not to; there's a sex scandal here but it is not the biggest scandal.

Exciting news! Thanks to our sale, we've rocketed all the way up to over 4,900 paying subscribers. This means we can cross another goal, a regular columnist, off our list. We plan to sort out the exact specifics in our own time, but for now, who do you think would be a good fit?
