#StarTrek Fonts: The Thread

This thread is going to cover the official typefaces used for on-screen titles and marketing materials etc. Not in-universe graphics, alien scripts or any of that.

Feedback and corrections welcome! Please check ALT text for additional context. 🧵 [001/???]

I saw the exact same thing recently. Sometimes it can just be someone going into a retirement home or just having a clearout of course.

I recently spotted the second edition expanded 'Ships of the Line' book in a local charity shop window. When I went inside to grab it I saw that they also had a shelf full of old Trek paperbacks. Snagged a few I'd been wanting to read.

Not sure I appreciated their classification tho. 😅
Ships of the Line, 'Articles of the Federation', 'The Entropy Effect', 'Sanctuary' and 'The Final Reflection'. The latter I especially want to read as John M. Ford wrote 'How Much For Just The Planet', which I loved. I gather this one is quite different (not a comedy, more of an intrigue) so I'm curious about it. A shelf full of Star Trek paperbacks. It's actually two rows deep! RIP to the Trekkie these belonged to, probably. Price sticker. They were only £1 each, and labelled as 'Children's Fiction'.

I amused myself with that one, I must admit 😄

My new 1:1055 scale model of the Constitution II class! Really like this one, it's just big enough to have a good amount of detail but small enough to still be cute lol. 379 pieces.

Yeah, maybe. I really do like his Galactica work for sure. The slightly more squat Battlestar in particular.

His work for Star Wars is more varied and creative I think. Plus there's just so much more of it!

Quite possibly! I did enjoy Buck Rogers as a kid.

Star Trek: The Next Generation Honey Graham Cookies (1994-1995): A Canadian release, these honey-graham cookies were shaped like characters and ships from the show, and offered a collection of six hologram stickers
A cookie box. The background is outer space, and the space ship from Star Trek: TNG soars across the top. Beneath the words "Star Trek The Next Generation Honey Graham Cookies" are a belt of tan cookies shaped like characters from the series

I was looking at my Battlestar Galactica paperback earlier - I really like this cover! - and I noticed that inside it has an obligatory upside-down picture (I think my TWoK book has a few of those too). Also, it identifies the Viper as a 'Starhound fighter'.

Even going easy on it for being a kids show, the amount of times characters in Zeta switch sides or waltz into enemy facilities unopposed or easily steal a Gundam is a bit much. Seems to happen almost every episode!

Wow, that's some weapons-grade trivia!

Is that a scene from the DS9 pilot?

Hah.

I have fond memories of this Search for Spock one because it had large colour starship photos. Eventually the spine broke down, which made it easier to trace the pictures. 😄

I have the Khan one. It's interesting that the movie one isn't in colour like the series ones are. Maybe the market was drying up as VHS becoming mainstream.

These are great. More mom observations! 😄

I doubt he ever believed that. I certainly hope not.

Team 17 still exists today, but has been through several troubled periods so maybe it's T17 in name only, I don't know.
Detail of my Team 17 logo.

Another retro games logo recreation. Team 17 were founded in 1990 when 17-Bit Software and Team 7 merged. I knew them from Alien Breed and Worms on the Amiga, both of which were favourites.
Vector recreation of the classic Team 17 logo, made with Affinity Designer.

Never got to the bottom of it exactly, but this is the best I can say until I learn more:

The Kelvin Enterprise has other markings that I am less certain about, but are probably a modified (or earlier variant of) UNITED SANS EXTENDED. It's a typeface that has been used elsewhere in the films, like on the Khanpedos from Into Darkness.
A closer look at hull markings on the 2009 Enterprise, with the font used likely being UNITED SANS EXTENDED.

It's not supposed to be a Bond movie, it's more that Connery is implied to be an older version of his James Bond. Obviously not canonically, but I watched a video elaborating on the theory and it really does line up in a lot of ways!

Beautiful video. Something for all the stellar cartographers out there…

I love this series of paintings. You can really see that the AMT model Enterprise was used as a reference.
