Daredevil vs Dynamo

Art by Wally Wood

G. B. Love (1966)

From Heritage Auctions...

Daredevil delivers a dizzying divebomb to Dynamo in this classic clash of crimson and chrome! Legendary artist Wally Wood, who famously worked on both characters in the mid-60s, created this striking cover for one of fandom's premier publications, G. B. Love's Rocket's Blast Comicollector. The fanzine became a launchpad for future greats and a gallery for established legends. Wood's star had already skyrocketed with his stunning work at EC Comics, and his 60s run continued to impress with a brief stint on Daredevil at Marvel and a dynamic stretch on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents for Tower Comics. This cover shows a more refined side of Wood -- clean, simplified lines, heavy contrast, and clever geometry, all playing with light and shadow to pack a visual punch. A crisp, kinetic snapshot from one of comics' most versatile masters.

Donald Duck vs Hitler

Walt Disney / Southern Music Publishing (1942)

From Heritage Auctions...

"When der fuehrer says we is de master race, we heil, heil, right in der fuehrer's face" goes the chorus of this song by Oliver Wallace, from the Academy Award-winning Disney animated short "Donald Duck in Nutzi Land". The 9" x 12" six-page folio is a particularly rare and fascinating reminder of Disney Studio's many contributions to the war effort, which in turn helped to keep the studio afloat financially during that time.

From Heritage Auctions...

Every day feels like Friday the 13th when you're a crook caught in the glare of masked vigilante Thirteen! This dynamic full-page splash opens "The Glass Gargoyle", starring a two-fisted mystery man who hunted down crooks, saboteurs, and spies on the darkened streets of the World War II era. Leaning into pulp and noir roots, Thirteen delivered shadow-soaked crime-fighting with a grittier edge than the flashier superheroics of Daredevil. Behind the moody inks was artist and former boxer Bernie Klein, a New York freelancer who even roomed with Batman artist Jerry Robinson, before his promising career was cut tragically short in WWII combat.

DC Comics (1998)

From Heritage Auctions...

A great final double-page splash from the penultimate issue of the maxiseries which re-imagined the origins of the Justice League of America, giving DC's Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) a lesser role in the formation of the superteam. This stunning cliffhanger shows 38 heroes ready to take back the world from alien invaders.

The heroes include: Justice League of America (Aquaman, The Flash [Barry Allen], Green Lantern [Hal Jordan], and Martian Manhunter), Justice Society of America (The Atom [Al Pratt], Black Canary [Dinah Drake Lance], Doctor Fate, Doctor Mid-Nite, The Flash [Jay Garrick], Green Lantern [Alan Scott], Hawkman, Hourman, Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt, The Sandman, Starman, and Wildcat), Mercury (Metal Men), Freedom Fighters (Black Condor, Doll Man, Human Bomb, Phantom Lady, and The Ray), Seven Soldiers of Victory (Crimson Avenger, Shining Knight, and Wing), Batman, Superman, Plastic Man, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Liberty Belle, Doom Patrol (Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Robotman), and more.
