at my school we're pressured not to fail students especially in the required first-year writing class, because then the college needs to offer more first-year writing classes so they can take it again. this seems like a class that they'd want well-resourced, doesn't it?

Yep. Exactly this. If a prof isn't willing to do the work to track and punish AI use, they're giving students a green light to use it.
I firmly believe that it is deeply unethical for professors to put students who don't cheat at a disadvantage in relation to those who do.

It seems to me that what people really mean when they say that is that there isn't any way to do it that can be entirely automated.
My rule is that if I'm not willing to put in the effort to keep track of what students are doing, I don't expect them to do it. 🤷

Confirmed: Earlier this morning a photog overheard agents inside the parking garage say “dismissed,” believed to be calling off their planned mass raid.
A source tells me they had planned for *hundreds* of agents to flood Canal St. They got flooded instead.

Many colleges strongly pressure profs not to fail students because it (eventually) impacts the graduation rate, which impacts enrollment. Now, do colleges provide professor with *resources* so they can teach more effective classes? LMAO no
I read the thread and know why they're not failing the students. They gotta let colleges fail the students for the sake of the curriculum and other students
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
