Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino "also revered Starship Troopers, Robert Heinlein's 1959 military sci-fi classic about an interstellar war between humans and alien bugs - a book his sister says he still reads to this day."

NGL I feel like with the latest round of big name abusers we are just repeating the same mistakes that unfolded with #MeToo, which is to say, we are focusing on how to punish bad individuals rather than on create systems that limit abusers’ power and make it easier for victims to escape and heal.

Trump take presents.
Fox guest on how to save money during the holidays:

"Remember, adults don't need gifts. Focus on the people in your life who are aged 3 to 18. Grandma doesn't need slippers. If they don't live by you, don't get them a gift."

Yeah, I’d watch that.
Shelley: FINALLY, someone understands my vision!
King: and what's your vision, mary?
Shelley: that frankenstein is super fuckable
King: the doctor or the monster?
Shelley: why not both?
del Toro: yeah, why not both?

Bob Roberts turned out to be the most prophetic American film of the 1990s. It became slightly uncomfortable to rewatch in the years of Enduring Freedom and the Second Iraq War—from 2015 onward, it’s become almost painful.

But the film still has a LOT to say about how it can, in fact, happen here.
I have thought about Bob Roberts once a day for the past ten years, and would eat this sequel up with a spoon.
The Freewheelin' Bob Roberts:

Tim Robbins returns as the right-wing folk-music singing senator from Pennsylvania. In the sequel, he is finishing his fifth term in office and (after two failed runs for president) is facing a primary challenge from someone even more extreme than he is.

What sticks out for me, looking at the Nuzzi excerpt in this light, is that her dreck is about to get published while S&S cut Milo loose a few years ago, his manuscript deemed unpublishable by professional standards.

Now, I haven’t SEEN what he submitted, but by inference… it must have suuuuucked.
Nuzzi and Lizza had a major deal from Avid Reader (S&S) and she’s living in a house in Malibu

She had to write some shit or return S&S $$$ — a minimum of $125k on signing — unless a book was delivered

So she delivered and is *at least* $375k towards full payout for this dreck

No lies detected.
Dems: Mamdani is too radical for our taste. Plus someone said he's antisemitic. And that name is scary to us! We need to keep him out.

Dems, 1 week later: Look lots of people have tattoos like that

Dems, 2 weeks later: Marjorie Taylor Greene, welcome to the Tent

Every now and then, I’m reminded that the literary-political complex cancelled Dale Peck so progressives could pin our hopes for the future on… this guy.

It’s not so much the weak-ass Robin Leach imitation of the voice-over artist that gets you as the sound bites from the dead-eyed journalists celebrating Epstein’s real estate holdings and his ability to network with Bill Clinton.
please join me in screaming for almost 3 minutes uninterrupted at this old vh1 clip about jeffrey epstein

Part of me would be delighted if Elisa New used this to take Larry Summers to the cleaners, but then there’s the part of me that remembers New was also sucking up to Epstein for favors around this time and probably knew exactly what her husband was getting out of his friendship with the guy.
imagine being hit on by gross old Larry Summers when you just wanted professional advice and then finding out he was getting advice on how to hit on you from Jeffrey fucking Epstein

one of the grossest things I’ve ever read
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

“The history of classical music is …one of rupture[,] characterized by the porous and readily-breached border between art and politics. When artists today demand that their work hover above the conflicts around them, they’re not defending tradition or history; they’re abandoning it.”
Music Unties
Classical musicians continue to insist that art has nothing to do with politics.

Right-wingers used to manufacture images like this with AI or cartoons to claim Christianity was "under attack" in America "because of Democrats."

Here they are making it real over punitive, inhuman treatment of immigrants.

This text may possibly be the stupidest pitch I’ve ever received on behalf of a political candidate, so of course it comes from James Carville.

Huh! Go figure.

The chancellor of my college system announced today that one of the professors at my campus was uncomplimentary of Charlie Kirk following his death, which resulted in the chancellor getting 800+ phone calls and e-mails demanding the faculty member's dismissal.

The Chancellor: "No."

I mean, hasn’t “how Michael Wolff aspired to be part of elite circles he wrote about” been the Michael Wolff story in a nutshell since 1998?
Michael Wolff tried to buy New York Mag — with money from Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein.

So Wolff didn't just have a reporter-source relationship with Epstein. Nor was Wolff his informal PR adviser. They saw each other as potential business partners.
