Nazi 4chan trolls and other APTs (Advanced Persistent Teenagers) have been photoshopping shit for years to insert disinfo into viral news cycles. AI is a problem 💯 but mostly bc no special skills are required. It’s easy, accessible & fast so quantity & velocity go 📈 but it’s already normalized
Unfriendly reminder, AI is being used to destroy trust. Do not normalize the use of AI. AI can not reliably enhance videos or low-quality images.

This is the quiet replacement of reality. Do not let this be normalized.

It’s really difficult & disorienting but the feds hit LA extremely hard today. There were kidnappings all over & reported cluster raids in Chinatown, East LA, Ktown. This list shows to 1130 AM but they haven’t stopped all day

Just because the media attention stopped doesn’t mean the abductions have

They haven't stopped or slowed down kidnapping people in Los Angeles either.
yes, there are no real signs of any big change in DHS activity here yet. In Chicago there really was after Bovino left and they basically ended "Midway Blitz" not so here so far.
I don’t know, declaring victory in MN seems premature. They’re still arresting people and brutalizing the community. The changes appear—so far—to be cosmetic

Related, "polarization" as a problem is one of the most destructive ideas US political science has ever helped popularize.
This is why I have real fucking problem with blithe criticisms of "polarization" or "congressional dysfunction." We have a Republican member blaming his colleague for being attacked.

The problem isn't polarization or dysfunction. It's the Republican Party.

Someone should play the video of Fátima Lucas Henrique’s screams as she was kidnapped by federal agents on the way to her early morning nursing shift to Sen Susan Collins wherever she shows her face. This is happening to Mainers on her watch.

Going to start doing house calls to care for immigrant neighbors this week and needed some advice.

(TW suicide) One person who died in ICE custody this year is someone I haven’t seen mentioned much—Chaofeng Ge. He was found hanging in a shower room at a processing center. It was declared suicide…even though his hands and feet were tied behind his back. ICE is refusing to give the family details

I don’t care who it is. Mental health issues do not make someone a bigot and it’s not an excuse for dangerous, harmful, or abusive behavior

People have psychotic episodes every day without being a bigot, or engaging in sexually inappropriate and/or abusive behaviors

I don’t think I’d call them “wannabes” I mean DHS has been recruiting with white supremacist dog whistles. It’s highly likely they hit their target audience and recruited whites supremacists who are now hunting humans and leaving white supremacist symbols behind.
ICE is leaving Vietnam-style death cards in the wake of their kidnappings because they are the saddest, most embarrassing military wannabes to ever live

As a historian with a focus on the history of news media and communication: the reported news itself was/is never ‚what happened‘. It is a construction, an interpretation, a mediated version of a perceived event. And therefore news reports were always about making realities.
So important. What they say is not the story. That is never the story. What happened is the story. Write what happened.
Media: do not lead with the false government framing of what happened
