As a historian with a focus on the history of news media and communication: the reported news itself was/is never ‚what happened‘. It is a construction, an interpretation, a mediated version of a perceived event. And therefore news reports were always about making realities.
So important. What they say is not the story. That is never the story. What happened is the story. Write what happened.
Media: do not lead with the false government framing of what happened

i’d also be super interested in talking to people at these companies about the vibe after your bosses ate popcorn with the president during a political assassination. signal in bio.
If you work at Apple, Zoom, Amazon and AMD (not to mention Palantir or Nvidia) i think you should organize, unionize, and hold your fascist enabling CEO accountable.

You are powerful together
An insane, perfect encapsulation of it all:

The same day Trump’s agents kill a Veterans Affairs ICU nurse in broad daylight, the CEOs of Apple and Amazon join Trump to watch a private screening of a film about his wife directed by an alleged sexual abuser who was seen shirtless in the Epstein Files

Reminder: If the Supreme Court upholds Trump’s attack on birthright citizenship, some of the ICE officers currently brutalizing Minnesotans may be reassigned to apprehend newborns from the hospital for immediate deportation. Just read the Trump administration’s own memo. slate.com/news-and-pol...

There it is. You want me to trust that you have my beat interest at heart while you pine for the old days of civility when Black people were being killed in the streets by local police instead of federal agents. You hate trump but you do NOT hate state sponsored violence against us.

I have seen other people suggest this moderation list. I don't use it personally and haven't really skimmed it much.

Adding @karnythia.bsky.social and @thewayoftheid.bsky.social to this list really calls the judgment of the list maker completely into question.

"Black people and Latinos each made up around a third of CHP stops." "[F]ar higher than [Oakland's] Black population, at 19%."

"They are racially profiling."

What happened when Gavin Newsom sent a 'surge' of state troopers to fight crime in Oakland
The governor promised a crackdown on crime. But in the first year of the surge, state troopers arrested very few violent criminals. Instead they stopped 15,000 Black and Latino drivers.

fuck
New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

Murphy also issued a bunch of pardons today, notably including:
-Michael Sica, a corrections officers' union leader who unsuccessfully covered up the beating of inmates at the Union County Jail
-Al Coutinho, a disgraced former assemblyman who resigned to plead guilty to stealing from a charity
Phil Murphy went from considerably to the Legislature's left in Term 1 to, in Term 2, somehow to the right of the Legislature, which I have previously described as "what if the New York IDC was most/all of the Democratic caucus?"

if anyone has like $10 to spare so I can grab some food before picking up my passport and getting home, I'd super appreciate it ❤️🙏🏾
this is adding hundreds of dollars to my trip budget that I technically cannot afford, so if anyone wants to take pity/offer sympathy ❤️

Waiting until there's an activist murdered then giving her family millions is not a path towards liberation.

Materially supporting families doing what they need to do to stay safe from the fascist militias roaming the streets kidnapping anyone who's not white is. Please support this fundraiser:
This was just given to me by someone on the frontline in Minneapolis.

This fundraiser is organized by a group of neighbors, community organizers, and friends to help with housing payments for the neighbors in the Bryant neighborhood.

Share, give, share, and give again!
