They have repeatedly abducted Native Americans. This is ethnic cleansing, point blank.
No news reporter should go uncorrected whenever they call this an "immigration crackdown".

When they are kidnapping people simply based on the color of their skin that is an ethnic cleansing.

Honestly the combination of ICE protests and actual ice storm is a gift to future historians, who are not gonna have to work even a little bit to find symbolism in this era.

It's worth noting that the population of Minnesota is about 5.8 million, so close to 1 in 100 people in this entire amazing state showed up to say #FuckICE today
50,000+ marched against Operation Metro Surge and IN FAVOR of our neighbors in 10 Degree below weather.

This book is lovely and the sequel is perfection!
New Review
Queen of Ieflaria by Effie Calvin is a fantasy set in a rich world where gods, dragons and magic play a real and important role in the stories. It’s the first book in the series and a brilliant beginning.

They were eventually allowed one phone call as a thanks for saving the agent’s life.

They used it to call their lawyer, who called their state representative, who ultimately got them released on the condition they tell people they were “treated kindly.”

Reporters, if you wrote about learning loss due to covid school closures, you can write about learning loss due to state terror.
I am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.
"In St. Paul, at least one-fourth of students from Spanish-speaking homes have missed every day of school since Dec. 12."

They're singing "We get there together or never get there at all." So that's my crying moment for the day. My new favorite protest chant.
Happening now: From Target HQ in Minneapolis hundreds of clergy ask Target to be good neighbors and Support the 4th Ammemdment stop Cooperating with ICE!

Was talking to a family member about this last night. Minnesota's upstanding is so effective in part because we started preparing *last spring*. Then an additional round of prep when we saw what was happening in Chicago. Wherever you are, start building now.
I cannot emphasize this enough. If you live in a city, ICE IS COMING TO YOU. Get to know your neighbors now. Start signal chats now. Figure out what you can do well and get to it. See what other cities have done and well and replicate it.
This is also where you have to get your seeds of community in the ground while the ground is soft. Don’t wait until the goons are at your neighborhood schools to figure out who’s going to walk your dog/mind your baby/get everybody fed.

I keep thinking about how the people of Minneapolis already went through so much in the last six years and now have to survive ICE's mass brutality across the city. Melissa Hortman, her husband, and their dog were assassinated less than a year ago last June.
