The meteorologists got it right this time. Other parts of Chicago may have gotten around 4”, but up here on the north side we have over 10” on the ground. There’s more than that piled up on furniture, and it was a few feet deep drifted up against the garage.

I think it’s pretty telling that no one can explain why immigration is bad without lying.
The thing about immigration is that xenophobia and racism are the elite centrist position. Here's a senior fellow at Brookings, spouse of CRFP head Maya MacGuineas, explaining the mere presence of foreigners in Germany is a "problem" that someone must solve with "speed and determination."

Just hear me out: maybe the Democratic Party’s problem is that the party leadership is full of people incapable of realizing that Matt Yglesias has terrible political instincts.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

I really appreciate that @pbsnews.org ended the interview with this graphic.

It captures, in the simplest and starkest terms, the brutal arithmetic driving this country's homelessness catastrophe.

The only reason to go kill the survivors and lie about it is because you knew the boat wasn’t carrying drugs
5/ Administration explanation to Congress seems to be a bold-face falsehood: claiming double-tap strike was to clear debris, not to kill survivors.

"That explanation has prompted frustration among some members of Congress who say they believe the Pentagon was deceptive."

Yesterday, I roasted a boneless turkey breast that came with gravy concentrate to make up for lack of giblets/drippings. Googled cooking instructions from couch. A.I. response included "Do NOT remove gravy packet." 🧐
Multiple surveys are telling the same story: AI adoption has stalled. Census data shows ~11% of workers use AI, with rates falling at 250+ employee firms. Surveys show usage spiked then plateaued.

Meanwhile Big Tech is planning $5T in AI spend by 2030 that needs $650B/year in revenue vs ~$50B today
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

Periodic reminder that libraries allow you to read for free without stealing from authors, and used bookstores will charge you just a few bucks for books you can keep. Fuck's sake.

Possibly unpopular opinion but I think tenure should be revokable when you express bigotry toward the immutable characteristics of part of your student body. Such as saying women are naturally not as good at science and engineering. How many young women students has he harmed since saying that?
2/2 Summers did some disgusting predatory stuff. It's genuinely not clear to me whether it would legitimately be grounds for tenure revocation. But I would hope that folks at Harvard are looking into it.

Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."
