I’m old enough that I remember the battle of the Carmens. And that was when you had to choose instrumental music out of copyright. Why have I watched Unchained Melody, Gladiator and Elenor Rigby so many times in the last week? What playlist are these skaters listening to?

This is exactly the point. We don’t have to resign ourselves to the compromise candidate if we just find a better candidate. We have time!
If I were a Democrat concerned about winning elections and was hearing that a significant number of voters wouldn’t support Gavin Newsom in 2028, I would simply stop pushing Gavin Newsom in 2026.
look if you want to freak out about people not voting newsom if he's the nominee a week before the 2028 general election, I kinda get it (but don't say you weren't warned). doing it now though is just a weird attempt to strong arm people into supporting him in the primary.

I am playing Olympic catch-up, between working with the dog trainer on deaf puppy manners, and birthday cooking for my forever Valentine. But the Brazilian skier? Oh my heart!

I don't know why Newsom's 2026 Ronald Reagan Day proclamation is suddenly going viral but for the record he has done this every year in office and I have the receipts for you. (I make this thread only to further point out that Gavin is a shitheel but also proclamations like this are widespread.)

Please read this whole thread.

“We must not look away.”
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

I have a history of colorectal cancer in my family. I had to fight and argue to get a colonoscopy at the age of 45 (clear as was the result for my eighty something father the same week!). Argue. Advocate. Don’t take no for an answer. Early detection saves lives! (And get your mammogram!)
James Van Der Beek died of stage 3 colorectal cancer. It’s the same diagnosis my husband @danosaurusrex82.bsky.social had at just 42. His doctor used the word epidemic to describe cases among younger people with no family history.

Get your colonoscopy. Please.

This was in response to another thread, but seriously, we all deserve flowers!
I have to have tiny arrangements in small vases on a high shelf because my cats are punks. But every two weeks I grab carnations, alstroemeria, and (other)(sometimes spray roses, sometimes sweet peas, sometimes something that pops in the moment). We all deserve flowers.

I am at a bar, in a not particularly blue county. And a couple asked to turn on the women’s hockey, and the whole bar is so invested, and everything sucks except that.

All tales told, not a great day to wake up at 5 for women’s alpine skiing and stay up for the Super Bowl (no glory kept from Breezy Johnson, who is magnificent!)

This is such an excellent history of the best ever halftime show ever! (said w 6 minutes to go in the second corner). A joy to read.
Many folks are reflecting on Prince’s extraordinary halftime performance, the best ever. What you may not know is that it was a profound, nuanced statement and a powerful reclaiming of a proud musical tradition. Some background: anildash.com/2021/02/05/h...

This is all true!
Reupping this because a colonoscopy is no big deal and anyone over 40 should be talking to their doctor about getting one.

Take care of yourselves, people.
The prep isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, the surgery is the best nap you'll ever have, and the first meal after is a religious experience.
