Took this excellent advice tonight and my God, she's so good in it. It feels condescending to say she held her own with Nicholson and Beatty If anything she made Nicholson hotter and Beatty more intense. They had to meet *her* level. An understatement to say she holds the film together

There are so many Diane Keaton performances to remember, but a lot of people haven't seen Reds, and A) my God, see it, it is a masterpiece and B) her performance as Louise Bryant is one of the bravest, toughest, least sympathy-courting pieces of work by an American actress in the last 50 years.

Gene Hackman, Robert Redford and Diane Keaton all going in the same year. Absolute titans of '70s cinema

How can Diane Keaton be over? It's an absurd proposition. I reject it

Certain celebrity deaths are harder to process than others because the person in question was so full of life and creativity and originality that you just assume it's never going to end.

I was expecting "was deported yesterday" or "went into hiding because of death threats."

I read this post with so much mounting dread that I couldn't prevent a gleefully surprised "Oh!" when I got to the end

A library director in Wyoming who was fired two years ago because she refused to remove books with sexual content and LGBTQ themes from a library's children and young adult sections has just been awarded $700,000 in a settlement. t.co/EA5L1kOZfV

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

There's a very specific sort of deadened, quiet tension when you're in an office late at night and Mad Men was always so good at capturing it
tomandlorenzo.bsky.social
This is all obviously true, but I will say that Mad Men was one of the few shows that ever accurately depicted office politics and culture, in my opinion

One of my complaints about Severance -- which I like quite a bit -- is how obvious it is that no one involved in it ever worked in a corporate office environment. Hollywood in particular is very bad at depicting the hopelessness of a dead-end job with no prospects

there's a years ago tweet that basically said that anyone writing TV or movies by definition managed to land their extremely-hard-to-get dream job and it colors how they think about work and jobs and wish fulfillment in the stuff they write, and i think about it a lot

This week's POP STYLE OPINIONFEST is titled "Two Dudes Ranting About Taylor Swift" and that will surely result in very even-tempered responses. We talked about all things surrounding "The Life of a Showgirl" and ask if a billionaire can even be an artist

Pop Style Opinionfest: Two Dudes Ranting About Taylor Swift - Tom + Lorenzo
You heard us. We figured we'd just put it all right there in the title. Your two manly hosts opted to flip on their mics and get into the showgirl life.

Truth be told, I only retweeted because I liked that "foghorns of mediocrity" phrase
