I feel much safer today knowing that we deported a Babson College student back to a country where she hasn't lived since childhood.

She wasn't even flying internationally. She was flying to Texas.
A Babson College student wanted to surprise her family for Thanksgiving. She was deported instead. - The Boston Globe
Any Lucia Lopez Belloza was at Logan to catch a flight to Texas when immigration authorities detained her as she was about to board the plane.

Yeah, econ gets shit on a lot but I have become pretty radicalized in the importance of economic history. Labor history, especially.
Almost no STEM graduate of my acquaintance was taught basic concepts of labor supply and demand, empirical organizational dynamics, or recent economic history, making them enormously vulnerable in their professional lives. This is disciplinary arrogance but it serves external interests as well. 2/2

I fully agree from an intellectual and philosophical point of view. I'd also add the idea fails on its own terms: "the market" is a shorthand for "company demand" which isn't always aligned with the long-term interest of students. 1/

In sum, calling for university curricula to “adapt to the market” is not neutral reform. It’s a normative position that privileges one cognitive interest over the others.

This is the correct take. Stewing in white supremacist propaganda is bad for your thinking. And if think you are so savvy that it won’t impact you, you are the exact kind of mark they are slowly converting (I’m looking at you, centrist pundits).
It’s really funny how a generation will roll its eyes at parents who watch Fox News but doesn’t see why being immersed in Twitter is having the same effect. Lots of serious people show up on Fox News too but that shouldn’t be your primary source on the news.

Okay, but seriously, WHY?!?!?!? This is clearly a seasonal thing but most folks are already going to have roast turkey?! Why would you ever want a shitty imitation of roast turkey on an admittedly delicious reconstituted potato parabola when most folks get so much Turkey and leftovers it bores them!
We used to be a proper country

I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

I bought the back mat purely on rahaeli's rec and it came yesterday. I was on it for 30 minutes and it made a ton of the knots in my back better and decompressed my spine. I haven't been this pain-free in years. We have two friends in town. They both tried it and where like yo wtf is this sorcery.

Consciousness, idea formation, cognitive processes... so many of us are so woefully undereducated about this shit that some of us end up thinking we can hang out in a Nazi Bar without slowly becoming Nazis and they are fucking WRONG. Nobody is built that different.
Part of the problem is people think what persuades them is logic and facts.

In reality, most people's opinions are shaped primarily what they perceive to be the views of the community they're in.

So if you hang out with Nazis all day, it starts to feel "normal."

So Olivia Nuzzi is clearly a piece of shit who can never work in journalism again after this.

And, also, Ryan Lizza is clearly a piece of shit who should never work in journalism again after this either.

We're all agree on that, right?

I mention because yes sociologist of education. But I also mention because my entire personal code of ethics about educational attainment is core to my moral belief system.

I attended my grandmothers GED diploma ceremony. I would not mock that, not even for a destructive political troll.

That’s simply true. By ceremonial attainment and returns — a GED holder has fewer and poorer professional opportunities than someone with a diploma, some college, an associates, a bachelors etc.

For some reason this happened a lot from readers.

let me restate what I said. It is not hard to imagine that a GED-holder might have limited professional opportunities.

I did not say or imply (I checked) that she should have limited professional opportunities. It is a reasonable, empirical fact.
Boebert has many reasons to be disrespected, her having a GED is not one of them.

When the "outliers" are the most famous and celebrated people in the industry, and the "good ones" are all the nameless/faceless people who everyone acknowledges have less power and are valued less, then you're just re-describing the problem with different words.
I’d find “these out outliers, we shouldn’t read too much into them” more persuasive if we hadn’t *just* gone through a cycle of rewarding/praising Nuzzi.
