I can't trust politicians who are anti-trans. Not because I'm "only searching for perfection" which is what centrists will be accusing me of for the rest of my life, it's because if you're not pro-trans you'll be garbage on lots of other issues too. Being anti-trans NEVER exists in a vacuum.

Pierce county already has an ugly history of people declaring martial law to undermine democratic processes and pursue violent, hateful agendas. I'm horrified at the thought of seeing a 21st century rerun of Isaac Stevens playing generalissimo.
Pierce County, are you guys okay? This is absolutely insane. Video from @hannahkrieg.bsky.social.

Neo Nazi Sheriff Swank basically threatened elected officials with violent retribution. Also, he sounds exactly like Steven Miller.

I believe speaker Mike Johnson was quoted as saying that ice is doing what it is designed to do...
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

Gavin Newsom has never had a homeless, a working unhoused, or an affordable housing advocate on his podcast despite governing California.

So yeah I think it’s weird that he’s entertained & platformed multiple fascists while grinning, nodding & relenting to their easily defeatable talking points.

People criticizing Newsom from the left overwhelmingly do so because of the serious real-world impacts of his policies and leadership style, and not some illusory crusade for ideological purity, as you might be led to believe by those who tried blackballing Mamdani for being too radical.

There's a fascinating tug of war between the people who want to see the Democratic party turned into a progressive body for real change and action vs the Schumer types and the Newsomites who want to see it turned into the PRI, a hollow vessel that brings hollow peace and demands silence

Every time I see the bluesky mod team doing something asinine it's like fifteen seconds between saying "how could people with this much experience running Twitter make something with such catastrophically bad enforcement of moderation" and realizing I've answered my own question

Every city needs to be preparing.

Find yr local immigrant support groups, find yr local peacekeeping / marshal cadres, find yr DSA direct action & de-escalation groups, find yr observers - get trained, get equipped, get prepared for what’s coming out way.

Folks are waiting to welcome you.
I agree with everyone who's saying ICE/DHS don't really have the forces to do what they claim in New York. But it won't stop them from terrorizing people, causing as much havoc and destruction as possible. They will also have the support of the massive NYPD.

We must prepare, because they're coming.
The Trump administration appears to be planning to leverage the same playbook used in Minnesota to go after other blue states. www.wired.com/story/califo...

this is what I (and really, all of us should) expect from Dem messaging, btw - it is not impossible to say these things. it just takes a spine and some actual convictions, and since Lander is always out in the streets, he has those in spades
ICE must be abolished. It has become a lawless, rogue agency. Federal law enforcement agencies must follow the law, if they're going to have any credibility enforcing it.

We are demanding justice for Renee Good and the prosecution of ICE agent Jonathan Ross for her murder.

I think Trump cancelling the midterms is an appalling prospect and people should be offended by the mere idea of it, but it's also basically unenforceable without the cooperation of local governments and would just stick another nail in the "illegitimate" coffin without accomplishing anything real.

Portland/fed/nasty gas:

Used by federal agents, not local PDs.

Effects are more extreme; some folks can pass out. One of the ways you know it's Portland gas is if folks who have been tear gassed before go "WTF IS THAT?!" or "OMG THAT IS EXTRA!" Much more coughing and vomiting.

My "What You Need To Know About Tear Gas" thread:

First, tear gas is a particulate, not an actual vapor or gas. In some cases, this means you can get some of the tear gas off your clothes by standing in a stiff breeze or strong fan.
