Not that you shouldn't get mad! You absolutely should! But it's important to get mad at the system that rewards people for acting on their worst instincts just as much as you get mad at the individual beneficiaries of the system.

This goes for everything happening in the US right now, really.

And I think calling it a pedophile cabal is missing the fact that what we're seeing isn't some result of ontological evil. This is basically the only possible end result of capitalism - a class of ultra-wealthy psychopaths free to act without consequences, and an army of people seeking their favor.

(Note: there is no enforcement compelling them to put a dollar in the jar but I have secured their assurances that they will.)

They had these in the 90s and the death of the non-backlit, light-background LCD panel haunts me every day of my life

People see and recognize this, they the US to be something different, but American identity and culture is deeply rooted in all the horrible shit. It's a really tough moment because people are being asked to either deny that fascism is wrong or adopt an identity that opposes core US institutions.

If people come together, they can get ICE off the streets, they can get back to normal. But "normal" is still the legacy of manifest destiny and slavery and the Monroe doctrine and renegade law enforcement and a horrible ancient constitution. Normal is what put ICE there in the first place.

Obviously I think that the passenger rail corridor between Tacoma and Seattle needs a lot of improvement. But when you have a city where your needs are met within walking or biking distance, that becomes a much less pressing issue than local bus service. You shouldn't *need* to leave the city daily.

The Tacoma link extension, and the decades and billions being spent on inching it forward, would be less necessary if so many people didn't need to commute to Seattle. for the cost of a few council meetings, the same timeline could turn Tacoma into a town with jobs instead of empty parking lots.

I truly struggle to think of any way that this could make the fascist death squads look worse in the US's public consciousness, which is an impressive sentence to need to type out but here we are in the year of our lord 2026 I guess
