The “canceled people” database listing victims of cancel culture, which includes oft-repeated cases such as Bret Weinstein (Evergreen State College) and James Damore (Google), has a little over 200 entries across 18 years.

New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

Hey, what were you communicating *about*, Larry

Any apologies for that

I generally think of issues regarding translating from monetary to real values as a bit peripheral regarding understanding limitations of the ideal theory of markets - but I think it is really central and unavoidable when that theory aims to take on/bridge with ideas of productive efficiency

The AI bubble may be about to bust.

Peter Thiel has sold all of his Nvidia stock.

We all need to say this very clearly:

NO BAILOUTS FOR THEFT-TECH!

Expropriate their asses instead.

They stole from all of us and fully plan to burn the planet.

They owe us - not the other way around. 1/3

Harvard forced its President to resign because of some bad citations on an old paper.

Something tells me Summers wont face the same pressure.

A reminder that when Christian Nationalists in the Republican Party lecture you about the importance of "religious freedom," they are not talking about YOUR religion or YOUR freedom. They are talking about THEIR freedom to impose THEIR religion on you.

I think there are a number of people employed at the New York Times -- certainly not all of them, but many! -- who simply do not grasp how badly the paper's credibility has been shaken over the past few years, along several different axes, and for multiple different reasons

bring the hammer down on the corrupt self-dealing politicians and their rich friends and there are no sacred cows id give a pass”

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

Epistemic violence against sexual abuse accusers—smearing them as deluded, crazy, or incompetent—is something rapists know works, and they conspire to do it.
Jeffrey Epstein advised Steve Bannon that the lawyers representing Brett Kavanaugh in his confirmation hearing should accuse Christine Blasey Ford of being on medications that cause false memories or memory loss.

there's a sense that conservatives want me to worry about which liberal elites might catch Epstein strays when in fact I am so married to this outcome that me and this outcome have a home in the suburbs and are expecting twins
All the Epstein emails are powerful elites saying shit like “Hello my friend the pedophile, i need your advice as a pedophile, what do you think about this other pedophile? Pedophilic Regards, your Friend ;)” and instead of swinging from a gibbet most of them are still writing op-eds against leftism

feels relevant today
we have an elite impunity problem and a lot of the people and institutions that nominally oppose Trump will burn down their own before admitting that this helped produce him
I've said it many times before and Andrew Cuomo is making me say it again: we don't have a cancellation problem. We have never had a cancellation problem. To the contrary, we have a problem that "disgrace" is a very temporary embarrassment— an brief entr'acte more than an intermission.
