Strong agree. It’s a metonym for the general problem of money in politics. People rightly don’t know all the details of how 501(c)(4)s or whatever work, but correctly intuit that the electoral system can be bought, somehow, and reasonably trace it to the decision about political spending and speech.

The one unbreakable commandment to rise into/stay at the top of Dem policy/politics circles is never, ever, ever acknowledge that it is no longer the summer of 1992.
