Erasing non-white people was always the objective.
I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

ICE has kidnapped so many people from their cars that the city had to put out this statement. Let that sink in.
Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

I called the Herr's Product Quality Concerns line and reached a nice lady. She listened to my whole little saga.

She waited, then said, "I bet you believe they're made from real potatoes now!"

I may never recover.
Got my first bag of potato chips in months. Cracked it open. The first chip out of the bag was... soggy?

The second chip was almost fungal.

Baffled, I explored the bag and discovered AN ENTIRE POTATO. Unsliced, brined, like a wad of seasoning juice. It had survived, and now was juicing the chips.

Two white friends tail me home if it's outside the hours when people are out and about. I'm damn near third generation Minnesotan. It's not just "you're a citizen you'll be fine." I'm a black woman alone. Who knows what they will do.

i taught a course on "hope" in Fall 2024 and after some theory (not a ton of it out there!), the readings were almost all Black Americans who saw the obstacles arrayed against the cause of racial justice, knew it was possible (likely!) they'd fail, and yet continued
i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

I wrote a quick blog post in 2014 titled "police reforms you should always oppose." It went viral and became the basis of a chart created by Critical Resistance to evaluate abolitionist steps. Money for training and body cams were the first two on my list.

Before Bluesky allowed bookmarking (🙄), I saw and interacted with a post about a great assignment for students having them read in different places and reflect on their experience. I’ve tried to search, but it’s not coming up!

Anyone on #academicsky have that post that can be reposted to me!

Kevin couldn't have summed it up better. Treat cost-of-living issues not as a distraction, but the *result* of political violence.

How are restaurants and trucking companies going to be fully staffed? Does it matter if eggs are cheap, if masked men could detain you and plunder your groceries?
Don't treat costs of living as a pivot from the authoritarianism, connect the two. Example: bsky.app/profile/acyn...
