Advice that applies to more than just information technology: a thread.

If you're simplifying a complex problem, you're likely doing it wrong.

I didn't know that Ivar "torture the queer and autism out of them" Lovaas, the monster who invented conversion "therapy"/ABA, was also a literal Nazi, but this is the least surprising fact ever.
xakana.bsky.social
"Lovaas was a member of the NS Youth League, patterned after the Hitler Youth and named after the Norwegian Hirden paramilitary organization... Both he and his father are listed in Norway's "National Treason" files documenting Nazi collaboration."

He also said the Nazis inspired him to behaviorism.

Border Patrol “attempted to arrest a plumber working inside a Logan Heights home but left empty-handed after the homeowner refused them entry.

The homeowner told agents she would not allow them inside because the warrant they presented did not include her address and lacked a judge's signature.”

So much less wear and tear on everything, just moving around. 200+ lbs is just hard on the knees after decades, folks.

Time for me to plug "God's Executioner" again, Cromwell didn't just win because he had cannon and money, he won because every opposing faction regarded the other opposing factions are a problem to be solved.

"We're actually expected to do our jobs with due diligence?" has become a pretty boilerplate defense on the right and people who interview them need to respond with, "If you cannot manage to do the job you should probably quit and apologize to the American people for taking it in the 1st place"

For starters, both Windows and Mac OSX have migrated from "we are running your computer for you" to "we are providing an interface to our cloud services for you" and that is the root of all evil.

I would rather an OS that has a simple command line command set than one where you're forced to navigate through multiple "smart" menus (where everything moves around all the goddamn time) to do the same thing.

Granted a non-bananas graphical UX can easily outperform that, but we don't have those

This is a good catch. The statutory authorization supposedly being used to transfer R&D funds to regular payroll is, in fact, expired, just like the regular appropriations are also expired.

Not that Trump/Vought/Hegseth gaf, but among other ways in which the law says this may NOT be done:
A) The part of 8005 I've underlined in green says money transferred to another account is "available… for the same time period" as that other account; that other acc't expired on Sept 30.

Every day that passes I am more convinced of two things:

1) This regime’s attempt to consolidate and hold power is going to collapse in truly spectacular fashion

2) That collapse is going to be astoundingly dangerous and destructive

Ain't none of these yonkers done loved until a professor hands them a card and says, "this is an alpha version of nVidia's to-be-released next year card and there are no public drivers available for it yet make it work please?"

So Kilmer Abrego-Garcia will not challenge a deportation to Costa Rica, who has agreed to for him residency, but DHS won’t agree to send him there because it’s not cruel enough.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/u...
For weeks, Mr. Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who is married to a U.S. citizen, has made clear that he would not challenge his deportation if he were sent to Costa Rica, which has promised him legal residency and guaranteed that he would not be sent back to El Salvador.

But the Trump administration has refused to deport him to Costa Rica, and in an earlier hearing this week, Judge Xinis pressed the administration to consider the option or clarify why it was unacceptable.

It is very strange that the whole reason why nVidia got popular in the first place is that they released non-gnu but stable drivers that let you use the whole capability set of the card, and ATI did not, and now everybody is locked into CUDA even though the driver support has continuously eroded.
