Tbf mass lead poisoning of young men might explain *quite a lot* of what’s been happening in recent years.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

There is an inevitability to all technology advances; a hole it arrives at if you will:

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Hey news people: I know you like to pretend this doesn't exist, but you need to pay attention to the Nazi drama on Twitter. Basically, it seems as if Elon just restored two major neo-Nazi accounts that were banned by his product head, and might be about to fire the product head for banning them

I know of at least software products that would have displaced whole professional service industries that were bought by… professional service firms

The cosmic horror genre is pretty much stage setting for King. He said as such.

But agree Lovecraft is not great at all

RDR has a more chill pace. Bio shock gets nuts quick but has a great pay off
disappoptimism.bsky.social
Well I suppose you could see it like that but Lovecraft was scared of everything. Like, he was a deeply anxious person. He was a 1920s streamer.

There is definitely a misunderstanding that rich people buy a business to make money when sometimes they buy it to simply shut down a market.
disappoptimism.bsky.social
Isn’t there a famous quote somewhere from one of the Founding Fathers saying something like the reason there is a President is people still need a King figurehead otherwise they don’t understand how government works?
disappoptimism.bsky.social
I just remember as a kid thinking Tolkien was great at creating a mythology but verbose in how he portrayed it. Funnily enough same problem as Lovecraft.

Imho

Oh. Thought everyone was all “lovecraft was a lynchpin to horror writing” as Stephen King fundamentally borrowed his whole schtick
