Not gonna link the troll but Bari Weiss clearly represents “thought police” more than 100,000 Bluesky leftists scolding you for writing a defense of Weiss ever will, and ignoring that reality is clearly designed to curry the favor of thought police. You’re not a free thinker, you’re the boot licker.

somehow the defenses of Bari Weiss always find space to list all of her self-promotional achievements and then run out of column length before they can cite any examples of her doing worth-a-damn journalism or writing or publishing. must be a coincidence

“Hidden here is the assumption that ordinary people are unable to grasp anything challenging or complex. It is a wretchedly patronising claim imposed upon working-class people by middle-class gatekeepers…”

Like, sorry to folks who believe you should never criticize a politician you think does some good sometimes, but if they're in charge of the guys wearing brown shirts clubbing people with giant wooden bats and they're not putting a stop to it, they're doing something wrong.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

you get put on a watchlist for typing what i want to see done to every single ICE agent
perfors.net
Heartbreaking reading, but this Reddit thread gives a sense of the relentlessness of the horror inflicted by ICE, and the damage being done to so many innocent people that doesn't make the news.

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back
Tom Morello tweets: "Fascinating that all those “don’t tread on me” posers and their AR-15’s are nowhere to be seen and government tyranny is instead being opposed by a guy in an inflatable frog suit."

Someone named Manny replies: "@grok
why do some people say Tom Morello and band mates are RAGE FOR THE MACHINE and not against ?"

It’s heartbreaking that the richest country in the world needs food banks to feed its people but it’s unbelievable that our billionaire politicians have forced our military to feed themselves and their families from food banks.

Food Pantry Visits From Military Families Climb Over 30% Since Government Shutdown Began
Military families are being encouraged to seek out food, other resources as the government shutdown has surpassed one week with no end in sight.

I cannot overstate what a bad idea it is for a man I have never heard of to cannonball into my *LinkedIn comments* to attempt to slag my book. I'm both a reporter and a petty bitch, JAY.
comment from Jay Dixon: Your message was big about 10 years ago when the PE world was fighting the narrative. It's changed, hope you can find your place

reply from Megan Greenwell: The book is a bestseller with a Kirkus star and a glowing review from the New York Times, so it seems like the message is still plenty big, but thanks for the unsolicited advice from someone I've never heard of whose book seems to have been read by approximately 12 people. Hope you can find your place!

yeah i dunno man i just want a political party that will not ever tell me that masked paramilitary guys kidnapping people off the streets is a distraction from kitchen table issues
albertburneko.bsky.social
(that's leaving aside that their refusal to confront the ICE shit is appalling and indefensible on its face. like imagine a regular non-politician who robotically insisted on changing the subject to healthcare costs every time that stuff came up. you'd think they were a creep, and you'd be right!)
albertburneko.bsky.social
i know you're not. but to the extent the democrats are doing as you suggested, their performance of message discipline around healthcare premiums has to attract more people (or disaffect more trump voters) than it alienates in order to be a good strategy, and i don't think it can possibly do that
albertburneko.bsky.social
i think you're right that these people exist in some form. i think the idea that democrats are going to peel enough of them away from trump to offset the people they're alienating by ignoring what's happening in the streets is, like, amazingly delusional

is it not weird that every day there’s a new video of anonymous masked men having the time of their lives beating/shooting/disappearing people and the dem response from the top down is “republicans want to double your health insurance premiums”

EL PASO — a family says ICE showed up at their house looking for migrants and shot and KILLED THEIR DOG, then didn’t help them as the agent ran away and was not identified.

Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.

the administration is laser-focused on making sure Americans don't get clean energy, so Saudi Arabia (Trump's paymaster) has someone to sell their oil to in 10 years when the rest of the world has moved on to solar+batteries
costasamaras.com
Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.

SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE
