chatbot lovers' undying desire to convince others of the superiority of their choice to regularly use chatbots, and to try & make nonusers feel some kind of fomo comes across as a need for social validation and hints at some internal conflict they're trying to resolve. good, I guess, if ineffective.

an important read for at least 2 reasons:

1. shows how big tech operates on intuitions and vibes and not rigorous research

2. this is a masterpiece in how to breakdown complex scientific concepts in simple language and elegant pros that captivate the lay reader

Datacenters in space are a terrible, horrible, no good idea.
There is a rush for AI companies to team up with space launch/satellite companies to build datacenters in space. TL;DR: It's not going to work.

If you think this through from the perspective of Duolingo themselves, they should be extremely anti-AI because it threatens to make their main product completely obsolete as people will (if you believe the tech industry can pull it off) just have universal translators
Duolingo announced it was going “AI-first” just over six months ago. Since then its stock is down 64%.

WHERE DID THE COLOR GO???

color is back in a big way. people are sick to death of white and grey everything.
not to harp on the way this administration exerts undue pressure on corporate America to reflect its racist attitudes or anything but Pantone just announced that its Color of the Year for 2026 will be "white"

Reader, we are now entering the point in our economy where even our video game consoles are experiencing shrinkflation.
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with 1TB SSD downgraded to 825GB listed at the same price — CFI-2116 revision emerges overseas on Amazon
Less storage for the same price doesn't sound like a good revision.

The exact same people who have been going on about "technical debt" for decades are now pushing "AI"-generated code.

Very interesting.

"But Spotify does this too!"

1. This isn't Spotify
2. Spotify does this because they copied their phone app without thinking
3. iTunes had it on top (on computers) for a quarter of a century
4. Basic human-computer interaction visual hierarchy: put important stuff on top

The fucken main controls of the app are on the bottom of the window. Unbelievable to get basic things like this wrong.
