People vibe-coding an app for someone else: 😊 This is awesome, it’s the future, so amazing!

The same people when being told an app for them was vibe-coded: 🤬 See you at court!!1!

Discussing if that UO grading story has any merit automatically makes the transphobes win, because you’re taking a hate crime seriously.

do i know that this is related to shopify's "use AI or we'll fire you" policy?

no.

do i have suspicions?

yes

bc this has not happened before
Shopify's admin has been down for hours on one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Shopify stores are still running and taking orders, but we can't sign in to enable discounts, see the orders, or fulfill shipments. Fun! shopstatus.shopifyapps.com

are you doing a big gallery wall?

bc if not, you probably don't need a ladder! lots of people naturally hang their art too high.

i, too, do not go on ladders.

Providing good information to decision-makers and expecting them to make correspondingly good decisions is no longer an effective theory of change in a world where leaders are captured by their own counter-knowledge and produce their own disinformation, even at the threat to all of our lives.

Fun fact, no one actually knows how brains work, that’s why it’s an active subject of research.

OG “AI” was created as a tool for this research—modeling various brain functionality in hopes to learn something. (These models aren’t facsimiles of biology, they are mathematical abstractions.)
Notice how tech talks about brains, they treat soft, vague, high level concepts as formal definitions. "Optimized for natural selection we have innate drives for power seeking..." They never explain how any of that happens/works! Then, if their program "fits" the definition, they claim they did it!

Whenever a guy gets angry with me for being against AI, I treat it as an opportunity to see what drives their motivated reasoning and their emotions. It seems very strange to get so flustered and unable to read a paper over just a disagreement, over a so-called tool, right?
I don't get this. The product is a chatbot. What skill do you think users need to learn to chat over text? It's a non skill to text and read replies after basic literacy, which is for children not adults to learn by just existing at school and life. Why do you choose to shill for companies?

In related news, a bunch of transphobes have been trying to start an argument with me for the last couple of days and why would I engage in that when I could do pretty much anything else instead?
The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

I’ve so many ideas for these companies on how to monetize it:

- Inserting ads into your emails
- Product placements in your Shrimp Jesus creations
- posting unflattering fake photos of you unless you pay a monthly fee
This is as good as this stuff will ever be, this is the phase where we're all supposed to be getting hooked in to this disruptive new thing. Once the free money dries up and they have to turn a profit, it will inevitably get worse and worse
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."

They'll do a prequel first, "Unremarkable Things"
If I may make a dad joke that is also speculation, since Stranger Things keeps getting stranger and stranger, the inevitable sequel series set when all the cast are old may be called Strangest Things

Enjoying the various snow pictures, but I prefer my desert livin' (forecast is for 77º here today).

However, we do get very occasional snow here every few years—like a dusting of it that's gone after a few hours—and when it does it looks magical.
