One of the few moments of pride as an Italian: coming across clips of the Pingu voice actor
Italian voice actor Carlo Bononi was the voice of all of the characters on Pingu. A trained clown by trade, he used a theater technique called grammelot, which consists of "speaking" in a mix of babbled gibberish noises. He improvised all the voices live and unscripted.

We have no idea what's even in our backyard. Every time we look, we find something new and wondrous, something that defies expectations and explanations both. What a vast, diverse, complicated universe it must be!

It has weather, it has varied topography, it has recognisable surface features of immense scale. You could study it for a lifetime and barely understand it at all. And that's one Kuiper belt object of 100,000+ that are at least 100km in diameter, in just our solar system.

Pluto was just meant to be an inert scrap of ice and rock, but when we sent something to look at it, we found it was covered in a shifting sea of nitrogen ice that lapped against the foothills of water ice mountains, with methane dunes blown up by winds of sublimating nitrogen.

There isn't one ball of gas or rock that we've looked at closely that has much in common with any other, apart from the most basic stuff. Every planet is the Solar System is different. Every moon of each planet is different from the others.

Here's the thing that Pluto tells us. Stars are predictable. There are variations (and they're important) but to a certain extent if you know a star's physical parameters, you know almost everything about it. Planets (and dwarf planets and moons and asteroids), however, are *all seemingly unique*.
These are the icy mountains of Pluto. It took 9 years to get these magnificent images… and 4.8 billion kilometers.

Pennyworth is a good watch. its had me, mum and dad engrossed.

twistier than a curly wurly, grittier than a dropped sandwich, and features both bloodied fascists and a damn good michael caine impression from lead jack bannon

✨A monument of Delos ✨

If you’ve ever wondered where the Roman fascination for phalluses came from, look no further than Delos. The Greek island is home to some monumental phallic sculptures dedicated to the god of wine and revelry, Dionysus.

Bloody hell!
After over 2 years, they managed to track down a never used D1 play head and have been able to recover all 4 seasons at pixel accurate quality. What a great story.

Big props to @linusmediagroup.com for being part of this.
