I’m usually so bad at taking my own advice, but I’m gonna hang onto this one because I still feel this way. Art by itself won’t save us by itself, but community can. And I think it will.
Not to be unkind, but I am so impatient about the “what’s the point of making my little zines/comics/crafts/art when the world is on fire” sentiments. I get it, but saving the world is not a responsibility shouldered by your art! That’s what being a neighbor, a friend, and hell, a citizen is for!!!

The EU-US trade deal's pledge to buy €700+ billion of oil and gas from the US was a disaster to begin with

Swapping dependency on Russian fossil fuels for dependency on other suppliers is never going to work

The EU must move to 100% renewables and cut energy waste (and people's bills with it!)
As long as the U.S. administration threatens Europe’s sovereignty and integrity, the trade deal stays in the freezer.

Erica was 25 years old when she was sentenced to 20 to 45 years in prison. It was always a dream of hers to grow her family and give her daughter a sibling. But, she writes, she may never be able to fulfill that dream:
Should Incarceration Deprive Me of Having Another Child?
It was always a dream of mine to have a larger family, and to give my daughter a sibling. But I may never be able to fulfill that dream.

I guess I just don't take what people living in other countries say about the U.S. personally. I live in the heart of empire. There's a lot to be pissed off at the U.S. about. I understand their anger.

Europe and Canada are going to have to recognize that their future lies either in great power bloc subsumption, or solidarity with middle powers they've traditionally thought of as beneath them. It's vanity to think otherwise.

Carney's speech was eloquent but there are big holes in it. It feels entirely aimed at Europe ("middle powers"). That's not enough. If you want a non-aligned movement you need to talk to the Brazils, South Africas, Kenyas, and Vietnams of the world. And you better have something to offer.

I know everybody wants to feel optimistic about Carney, Macron, Merz et al talking about a new post-RBIO system, but remember that they’re only panicking now because the structural barbarism is banging on their own doors. They don’t want to remedy it; just sustain its redirection.

One of the few moments of pride as an Italian: coming across clips of the Pingu voice actor
Italian voice actor Carlo Bononi was the voice of all of the characters on Pingu. A trained clown by trade, he used a theater technique called grammelot, which consists of "speaking" in a mix of babbled gibberish noises. He improvised all the voices live and unscripted.

Dependence on fossil gas now means Europe has around its neck one leash held by Russia, and another held by America.

Did we not bloody warn you?

hey I like that we're all posting thru it but I also wanted to say, in case anybody else is feeling it, that I'm pretty scared and genuinely think that we've passed a real rubicon in the past week or so and that being at the mercy of a handful of dumbfuck lunatics really does a number on your soul.

i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory
